LIQUORBALL

Can't believe there hasn't been a thread about these guys on this board. Anyone see their reunion shows recently?

I've been looking for a copy of Hauls Ass for at least a couple years, and FINALLY today I checked eBay and there's one listed (sealed, nonetheless). I check every now and then but I've never seen it listed until today. I used to have a copy on tape that someone made me years ago but I don't know what ever happened to it.

Is Fucks the Sky any good? I think I may have heard that one but I don't know for sure. Are those the only two they had? It's hard to find much information on this group.

Reatards Unite, Sunday, 4 May 2008 17:25 (seventeen years ago)

I've got fucks the sky. they're on some inept heavy psych-jam trip. haven't listened to them in a looong time. I know ugly american interviewed them in '92.

I've also got the blackjack 7" on glow in the dark vinyl. < /collectorscum>

Refresh my memory - what's the connection between them and Monoshock?

Cool. Also, how amazing is that Bad Trips LP????

I'm gonna refrain from bidding on that Liquorball LP cuz trying to outbid an ILMer would be a dick move, but I'm gonna place that LP on my wishlist for future shopping. Good luck Reatards Unite!

liguorball also has a track on the hawkwind tribute album assassins of silence

Edward III, Sunday, 4 May 2008 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

philadelphia record exchange had a bin stuffed with the live album last time i was there. $15

Also, how amazing is that Bad Trips LP????

not... really? i found it kinda disappointing. liqourball and monoshock is a lot to live up to, though. maybe i'm just bitter because they're set up in my hometown - my boring, fucking dead republican hometown that suddenly turned into some kind of noise/psych paradise when i moved. that's an exaggeration, but there was NOTHING going on before that. except surfing, cirith ungol and realization records.

oh yeah, fucks the sky is practically a metal record.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Monday, 5 May 2008 06:55 (seventeen years ago)

love this band

that is all

Milton Parker, Monday, 5 May 2008 08:05 (seventeen years ago)

oh yeah, fucks the sky is practically a metal record.

after listening to it back to back with some morbid angel this weekend I'm gonna hafta disagree. "it's practically a record" is probably more accurate.

Edward III, Monday, 5 May 2008 15:28 (seventeen years ago)

In a more just world, these guys would have been receiving the same sort of accolades that Comets on Fire are getting.

ian, Monday, 5 May 2008 15:31 (seventeen years ago)

Monoshock. Liquorball.

Steve Shasta, Monday, 5 May 2008 15:47 (seventeen years ago)

Liquorball. Monoshock.

I still don't have those Liquorball LPs. Just a few singles.
I should... get them.

ian, Monday, 5 May 2008 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

In response to Reatards, I can totally believe there hasn't been a thread about these guys on this board. Love 'em to death, but admit the necessarily "limited" nature of their appeal. And, yeah, Fucks the Sky is VERY good - better than Hauls Ass for my money, though not by much.

I've also got the blackjack 7" on glow in the dark vinyl.
The "Willie the Worm" 7-inch"? Me too! Got it when it came out just 'cuz it looked cool and fucked up, but then I couldn't find anything else by the band and pretty much forgot about 'em. Couple years later, got REALLY into Monoshock when they started putting out singles. And MShock's Walk Into the Fire is pretty much the best thing since unassisted breathing: finally got me excited enough to track down those Liquorball records I'd missed. At that point, five or six years ago, you could find 'em almost anywhere for about a dollar. Bought a replacement copy of Hauls Ass a few months ago: up to three bucks in the '07. Inflation.

"Walk Into the Fire is pretty much the best thing since unassisted breathing"

OTM, but I think I like the Runnin' Ape comp even better.

I'd always assumed the Liquorball stuff was impossible to find decently priced, and have still never heard them. Damnit, I was really meaning to not spend all my tax return on records this year...

BigLurks, Monday, 5 May 2008 19:07 (seventeen years ago)

Runnin' Ape is fantastic, but I skipped it 'cuz I've already put the singles on my computa. I think that the Liquorball stuff probably goes for decent money in the right hands, but they were totally ignored at the time, and the records just floated around in sale/dollar bins. So, they still show up from time to time in unexpected places for next to nothing. (This true in Seattle, at least.)

contenderizer, Monday, 5 May 2008 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

Man, I just ordered Hitler's Bunker and a vinyl copy of Walk Into the Fire all excitedly from Midheaven only to find out that they actually don't have anymore copies of either. I wish they would update their pages more often.

Reatards Unite, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 12:03 (seventeen years ago)

“I Took you to it, Baby” from Walk to the Fire rules.

And I thought the Bad Trips was great. Solid outer space vibes.

Yeah, that just happened to me with Haul's Ass.

two years pass...

ABsolutely fantastic band!! I have that 7 in. mentioned earlier in the thread, and if memory serves that gem goes back a long way. I'm thinking maybe into the '80s...? Anyway - Liquorball & Monoshock are bothe terrific & highly recommended for skuzzblast fans.

ImprovSpirit, Monday, 14 June 2010 19:47 (fifteen years ago)
