I signed up for their newsletter because they seem to be the only shop that has some Finnish music I'm interested in. They seem to be part of a growing trend of online stores (along with Boomkat, Aquarius, Wayside, Dusty Groove) that put a nice effort in writing original blurbs about nearly everything they sell.

There's a bunch of stuff I'm totally unfamiliar with that have piqued my interest. However, I always have to take reviews from retailers with a grain of salt. Anyone have opinions on some of these? Or a site that reviews this stuff (perhaps Brainwashed, The Silent Ballet)?

Devon Williams - Care Free (Ba Da Bing!)
Cloudland Canyon - Lie In Light (Kranky)
Roommate - We Are Enchanted (Plug Research)
Our Sleepless Forest (Resonant)

Heads - Dead In The Water (Rooster)
Ass - My Get Up And Go Just Got Up And Went (Static Caravan)
Secret Shine - All Of The Stars (Clairecords)
Daysleepers - Drowned In A Sea Of Sound (Clairecords)

one month passes...

Another batch with enticing descriptions. Anyone know this stuff?

Peter Broaderick - Float (Type)
For fans of Max Richter, Voice of Seven Woods, Goldmund or David Thomas Broughton. The long awaited debut album from one of Portland Oregon’s hottest new talents who has already at a mere 21 years of age performed and recorded with M Ward, Horse Feathers and Norfolk & Western. The release coincides with an almost two year-long tour supporting (and playing as part of) the acclaimed Danish band Efterklang.

Titus Andronicus - The Airing of Grievances (Troubleman Unlimited)
Comparisons to The Kinks, The Pogues, Bruce Springsteen, and even Arcade Fire are all getting thrown around. What you hear is three years in the making through over 18 different band members and touring by playing basements in North Carolina or a guy's living room in suburban Illinois or a college in New Jersey.

Sian Alice Group - 59.59 (The Social Registry)
sychedelic rock + pastoral folk + piano-lounge balladry + analog-synthtronica + free-jazz breaks + pounding Afro-tech grinds. Cromagnic nirvana." // WIRE. “Sian Alice Group create music that could soundtrack your wildest dreams.” // Dazed & Confused. "An astounding album, quite unlike anything one's ever heard before." // ALLMUSIC, 4.5/5.

One Little Plane - Until (Text)
Guitars, small percussion, thumb piano, melodica, keyboards, vibraphone, and a multi-tracked vocals. Produced by Four Tet. twist on the singer-songwriter tradition, One Little Plane is a musical epiphany straight from the unfaltering beat of one little heart - the captivating Kathryn Bint. You may have first heard the beguiling voice of One Little Plane on the Four Tet remix of 'Melody Day', the single from Caribou's latest album Andorra (2007).

The Gang - Zero Hits (Absolutely Kosher)
RIYL: The Go Team, Mission of Burma, Fugazi, Le Savy Fav.

Eden Express - Que Amors Que (Holy Mountain)
Eden Express is a trio comprised of Kip Uhlhorn (Cloudland Canyon), Kelly Uhlhorn, and John David Lovelace. Their debut is a lush, tropical album formed by a decadent love of drink, the non-erotic possibilities of equestrian ownership, and a finely tuned sense of the dark supernatural side of things. It's like castle rock with warm, white sand beaches!

While most groups form to play together with recording an eventual if somewhat unnecessary goal, Eden Express was formed to record this album first and to become a band second. That they so wildly succeed is a testament to the magic used and manipulated here. The witchy beauty of Eden Express recalls Pan y Regalis, Charlie and Esdor, and early tropicalia albums. Pour yourself and a friend some cocktails, sit by the pool, and try to become lucid as your bare, tanned forearms grow beyond 17 feet long.

nine months pass...

Looks like they're closing. Too bad. I wonder how Boomkat is doing.

"It is with sadness that we today must inform you that we are closing down our operation. The sales have dropped radically due to all the illegal file sharing going on, and we can no longer survive. "

Did you work for them or something? They were always a lot more more than anyone else in Sweden and always wondered how they stayed in business.
