Are My Chemical Romance and Panic At The Disco just a new generation's hair metal? Will any of these bands transcend their Warped Tour pigeonhole? What am I to make of these skunk-haired wonders?

I'm much more interested in what you think of Green Day.

Perhaps they will be remembered as a sign of how self-obsessed everyone was before civilisation collapsed. That's if we're not ALL DEAD.

They'll be seen as the bands who took attention away from real music like OK Go and The Shins.

As I was talking about with Ned yesterday, it's going to turn into AOR.

Jeff, I'd love to hear you expand on that idea. I've become fascinated by what makes these bands tick. Who are they trying to emulate? Is Blink 182/Green Day/Sum 41 responsible for all of this?

I was actually thinking you started the thread when I saw the title!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 11 May 2008 23:47 (seventeen years ago)

I'm working on the Treppel Theory of AORelativity for another thread...

The Theory of AORelativity

When they hit grownupland, My Chemical Romance and Panic and Fall Out Boy could probably transcend their genre in Green Day ways--or, if they really want to stay on Billboard, in Bon Jovi or Def Leppard ways. So it all depends on how they play it.

Saves The Day and Armour For Sleep and Say Anything and every other band will assuredly be like Kix and Faster Pussycat and Salty Dog tho once all those dudes have to settle into construction jobs or careers as music industry slime.
