her Lee Perry-produced Hurt So Good LP of the late 70's is supposedly the high watermark of Lovers Rock...I've never heard of it or her until just a few days ago...can somebody please corroborate?

I don't know about high watermark, but it's pretty good. Best employment of flutes in Black Ark productions.

Perry changed her name to Susan, explaining, "That's sexy."

I think that's her only album and while it's good it's far from being the high watermark of Lover's Rock.

All three volumes of this series make great starters (also search: every non-cultural record by Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, Horace Andy pre-1983 or so plus Dennis Bovell productions like Janet Kaye, etc. . .)

It's called "Shame" or "Shame On You" - great tune!

Two Doris Duke/ Swamp Dogg covers, some masochistic tendencies, an unplanned pregnancy, Elvis, what's not to love?

No. 4 single! Real name was Anne. She made Pete Waterman his first fortune, I think he had British rights to the single, he also re-recorded her album in Britain with British musicians - surprisingly it wasn't good as Lee Perry's version.
