Kid 606's new release

At Othermusic.com, I noticed they have a new cd by Kid 606. The blurb about it says, "Kid 606's newest full-length, for his limited run Violent Turd label, is a distorted mash-up of today's pop icons. He restructures and destroys tracks by Missy Elliott, Radiohead, Bikini Kill, DMX, Eminem and the Buggles. Get it now, before the lawsuit hits and they're all gone!"

Does anyone have this? I'd be interested to know what Radiohead song he used. Thanks.

wow, sounds exciting and innovative and not exploitative of "the kids" at all! now, you'll have to excuse me, i'm paying for multiple root canals without anaesthetic.

jess, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ermfh. I'm waiting for someone to actually do that kind of shit with Negativland and Evolution Control Committee. It'll be META- soundcollage! Yay for that!

Nate Patrin, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not even Radiohead. It's an acapella choir's cover of "Creep" with the line 'I don't belong here' looped over and over into an ambient track. The album is pretty much exactly what you'd think it'd sound like and there's also a Kylie Minogue remix (titled "Smack my glitch up" in characteristic 606 humor).

smack my glitch up

good lord. does he freelance for spin?

jess, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's worse that freakbitchlickfly, jess.

what really baffles me about the kid606 thing is how people like peter shapiro (in the wire bootlegs essay)can prefer this stuff to "regular" bootlegs, claim it as the mantle-bearer for hardcore's bricolage...not just prefer but call the bastard pop stuff "terminally cheesy" and "downright awful," as if drowning kylie in granular synthesis static isn't.

jess, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Never Underestimate the Value of a Holler" is the bomb, yo

J Blount, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

lou - if you're interested in checking out the radiohead cutup, it's called "this is not a statement", you should be able to find it on audiogalaxy

J Blount, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

correction - "this is not my statement"

(can't believe I'm saying this but) I prefer Kid 606's "mature" records.

Tim, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i think kid 606 is awful. what is the difference between this and v/vm? a: v/vm has some silly vendetta against everyone, whilst kid 606 is convinced that he is well rad....

ambrose, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually sort of like this record. [[ducks]]

M Matos, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i will say - for purposes of journalistic integrity (ha ha) - that i havent heard it. but i will never pay cash money for a kid606 release again after the freakbitch episode.

jess, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the freakbitch episode?

lou, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno, but jess should still be ready for the next episode.

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two words. Cassette boy. Try out the awesome "Fly me to new York"

Lynskey, Thursday, 9 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

four weeks pass...
The album's all good fun and well done, as long as you take the huge stick out of your ass first and check the elitism at the door. However, it's nothing essential if you already have a few items like this and are not infatuated by this type of stuff.

Fred, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

but the stick is the only thing keeping me alive anymore. (that and sweet, sweet hate.)

jess, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This album is one of those things that's a prank or a joke, i think. i like stuff like this in the same way that I like the Sex Pistols omore accurately, the KLF, which the this reminds me of a whole lot. It's like he's read KLF's 'the manual' and sort of gotten it wrong, but only becasue he had another agenda.Anyway, I like it; I like V/VM, I like stuff that robs and steals and takes the piss out of everything including itself. What interests me more than anything is how exactly the kid is courting a Lawsuit and all the publicity that goes with it. It's like the Sex Pistols - controversy sells -but there is also a statement being made about copywrite in there somewhere. or maybe he's just a brat who wants to get rich and famous A.S.A.P. I can't tell, which makes this interesting. oh and I reckon the tracks would be fun to dance to if you were drunk at a small club on a wednesday. sorry, I go on a bit.

Andrew Harper, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

its an overglorified mixtape although i must say i rather enjoy it. i'm not paying for it though - if Missy aint gettin paid then neither is the Kid. 2 more songs left to download - the radiohead one and the kylie one (being australian i want to hear what he's done to our favourite singing budgie)

mista bitchin, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the d12 "purple hills/pills)" through sir mixalot to the buggles mix is ace. the rest is rehashes of previous mixes and the vainglorious kid NOT KEEPING UP oh he's so clever. no he's just contentious . apart from the soccergirl ep which i love.

bob snoom, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so is it as rare as they are making it out to be? or is that just a load of bullshit to get people to buy it? answers on a postcard, or on here, doesn't matter really

squide mcsquideinson, Thursday, 20 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i really liked down with the scene when i heard it because it sounded so fresh and fucked up, but the more i hear of his the less i like. btw, Mitch's parody made me laugh my ass off. does it really sound this predictable?
