Best MUDHONEY Album?

Voted Since We've Become Translucent. Haven't heard The Lucky Ones yet.

Loads of great stuff, but SF/BM+ES is still their ultimate classic, IMHO.

Their last few albums have been very strong. I'd agree superfuzz is their masterpiece but those latter albums are maybe stronger albums as a whole than the 90s ones.

Absolutely worshipped this band once upon a time. Superfuzz Bigmuff still crushes most of the grunge in its wake. But after checking a few years back, I clearly overrated the full-length debut at the time. As for the rest...

Can't wait to hear the new one. Will be buying a copy Tuesday...

Superfuzz by a long shot. Especially when you throw in the early singles and comp trax. In 'n' Out of Grace, Touch Me I'm Sick, Mudride, If I Think, Sweet Young Thing, Burn It Clean, Halloween & The Rose covers, single verisons of You Got It & Here Comes Sickness = best stuff they ever did.

The Mudhoney LP was a real disappointment, but Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge almost gives Superfuzz a run for its money. Not anywhere near as gnarly/heavy, but varied, memorable and a lot of fun. Suppose it's too poppy for some folks...

Agree w/ HGN that last 3 albums (Tommorow Hit Today thru Under a Billion Suns) are pretty damn good. Certainly better than Piece of Cake and My Mother the Cow, though occasionally somewhat bland & torpid in the manner of the S/T LP.

New one ain't bad either. Although I wish they would steal their production back from Comets on Fire.

Im still quite fond of half the tracks on Piece Of Cake. Some of their best songs are on it. I remember excitedly getting it for xmas 92.

The s/t debut was a big letdown at the time, and it remains an extremely meh listen, at least for me. All that said, "This Gift" is one of the best things they ever did.

My favorite of the last three was definitely Translucent .. I was a little disappointed that for Billion Suns and, apparently, the new one (just based on the song lengths i've seen posted online) they haven't continued in the vein of "Baby, Can You Dig the Light" .. was really hoping that might be their new direction with the new lineup . .. full-on lengthy space jammage

Listen to Every Good Boy, JF. I have a feeling that, if everybody in the world listened to all the Mudhoney albums, EGBDF would win by a fucking landslide.

It would be a shame if people didn't listen to Mudhoney just because of when they were around as they're a lot better than that and deserve more.

Yeah, I totally understand the revulsion, but some really great babies go out with the "grunge" bathwater.

At least Melvins get credit now. Soundgarden don't seem to get any. Alice In Chains get blamed for the shite that came after, but they were great(Jerry fuck off with the reformation please).
If lite grunge hadnt hung around so long im sure these bands would've had more credit now.

s/t was the first I heard and I've always dug it. I'm surprised no one is talking up Tomorrow Hit Today. That album floored me when it came out. Not sure what I'm voting for though. Think I'll give a listen to a couple first.

Another vote for EGBDF, but 'Piece of Cake' is close behind. I really need to listen to the newer ones, 'cause a buddy of mine swears by 'em. Very stoked to go see them in Chicago (the Venue has changed from the new 'Bottom Lounge' to Reggie's - that's cool). Hey - what are the Mudhoney side-projects on Sub-pop? I've heard them in friends cars and homes but the project names escape me at the moment.

I bought Generation Spokesmodel when it came out and thought it was pretty crap, but My Brother The Cow is actually pretty good as an album. Not that I'd ever vote for it.

Mudhoney isn't at all bad, but it was a bit disappointing at the time. Only a few album tracks can compete with the pre-release singles, notably "Here Comes Sickness" and "When Tomorrow Hits". Superfuzz and singles/comp trax were all so fucking blazing, that I - and, I think, a lot of other fans - expected something more. Lacks anything as flat-out fucked as "Mudride" or the "Halloween" cover, indicating that Mudhoney didn't wanna be Flipper Mk II after all, but they weren't yet writing tunes strong enough to make up for the relative lack of tarpit grime (a deficit they'd remedy on EGBDF).

I mean, when one of the very best songs on your debut album is a goofy acid-funk throwaway jam called "Magnolia Caboose Babyshit", it's maybe an indication that you need to spend a little more time in the woodshed.

'Mudhoney' is the first one I heard and it blew me away. There is a couple of better songs on the Superfuzz Bigmuff, but I got to go with the self titled one.

After the first two, I think 'Tomorrow Hit Today' is the best one. That one is really consistent and they seemed to let some of the songs jam out a bit more. EGBDF is pretty good, but back then I thought it was kind of samey after the first two. There are some good tunes on the two in between, but there are also a couple of jokey things that make me hit the next button on them.

The comp 'March to Fuzz' is excellent. The first disc hits everything hot and the bonus disc of odd and rare stuff is really fun. If you are a fan, it is worth picking up for that second disc and the fact that the first disc sounds remastered compared to the early CDs. The Best of the BBC collection is also really good if you are a Mudhoney fan.

Voted Superfuzz by a nose, but I'm really loving the new one too!

I really dig that Fang cover (The Money Will Roll Right In) on their Best Of/Rarities album. Don't remember what it was originally on.

"The Money Will Roll Right In" was originally a "Let It Slide" b-side. One of the best covers the band ever did, so low and greasy and evil-sounding. Motorhead's "Over the Top" = another excellent cover from about the same time - 1st appeared as a "Suck You Dry" b-side. One of the nice things about that March to Fuzz collection is how damn comprehensive it is. A lot of Mudhoney's best tunes appeared in the margins of their discography. "Brand New Face" only ever showed up as a Tommorow Hit Today b-side, and it's one of my favorite songs from that album/era.

Agree w/ earlnash & others about the late-arriving greatness of Tomorrow Hit Today. Only recent Mudhoney album I'd have a hard time parting with.

I'm curious about this since I'd always loved Soundgarden and The Melvins, but had a weird Mudhoney blindspot… A pal won tickets to see them back in high school, then at the last minute decided he didn't want to see them and since he had a car and I didn't, I couldn't see them either. He was happy just to let the tickets go to waste.

IMO there were better singles off of Superfuzz, the s/t, and Piece of Cake, but as far as a cohesive album, it's Every Good Boy over Tomorrow Hit Today by a hair.

Yeah, well sort-of, there was the 2-disc March To Fuzz, where the first disc was as close to a greatest hits as they would get (pre-2000 anyway) and the second disc is rarities and b-sides.

Heard the new Mudhoney song driving into work this morning and it sounds like Mark Arm doing an impersonation VOM-era Richard Meltzer. Not that that is a bad thing.

I saw 'em in Toronto in '91 and Mark spent the whole show pretending they were Rush! He'd go like "Are you ready...for 'The Spirit of Radio!'" and they'd play "This Gift", then "this is about the Priests...of the Temples of Syrinx!" and they'd go into "Touch Me I'm Sick". Fun show.

Goddamn Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge is so so good. Excise some of the not as good harmonica songs and it'd be damn near perfect.

New album is another good one, actually might be a step up over the last couple. Impressive how remarkably consistent they've managed to stay.
