It occurred to me today that I've never heard this album. I know I always avoided it because of the lack of major Roky involvement, but on its own terms, is it worth hearing?

There's a big writeup on it, in a recent copy of Shindig magazine.

If you like the Elevators, you'll definitely appreciate it, or outright adore it. It's got the same kind of "meh" reputation as the later Moby Grape records, which are also great. Don't be fooled. Also, if you see the LP boot "Demos Everywhere" you should give it a listen because some of the tracks sound WAY BETTER than the currently available LP reissues of "Easter."

Definitely. Worth it for "May the Circle Be Unbroken" alone practically.

I remember not liking this much for a long time, but I was a fool 'cos this is a great great record. That run of Stacy Sutherland songs in the middle of the record: "Rose and the Thorn"; "Down by the River"; "Scarlet and Gold"; "Street Song" - which I don't think Roky had any involvement with - is esp. fantastic, complex late psychedelia, reminds me of Amon Duul II oddly enough. Stacy Sutherland is one of my favourite guitarists, and the bass playing is really good on this record (which is not true of the other albums!)

"street song" is such a fucking great song. i really wish sutherland had got to record more of this period, out of the shadow of roky and tommy he really did some amazing stuff.

What did he do after the 'Vators? I've heard of nothing.
