bad news: my fiancee just emailed me to tell me our wedding singer had died of a heart attack. which sucks, because we hired a one-man band (keyboard + singing) who knew the entire stevie wonder and al green songbook, and where are we going to find that again?

can anybody suggest wedding musicians? i like sun ra, tropicalia and electronic music.

does anybody have ANY idea about finding decent wedding musicians south of los angeles? i was thinking about hiring madlib. how much do you think he would charge for our weddings?

does anybody know any decent soul jazz (or latin jazz, or exotica even) musicians south of los angeles that do events?

But it sounds like Final Warning is out of his price range.

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 17 May 2008 06:43 (seventeen years ago)

those guys are OK but i'd rather just hire a gamelan if we're gong to do percussive music

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 17 May 2008 06:46 (seventeen years ago)

i think el vez is going to be out of my price range, monti rock is not really my style

i want an acid jazz wedding

btw faggots friends this is not an opportunity for regulars to comment on my taste in wedding music but rather an opportunity for lurkers in the southern california area who know the stevie wonder songbook to send me a message

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 17 May 2008 06:55 (seventeen years ago)

where are all the money mark copyists

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 17 May 2008 06:55 (seventeen years ago)

there's no shortage of jazz-funk bands in san diego but the problem is that they're all like karl denson - one old dude "w/ chops" and five fat jam band rejects w/ goatees.

and i bet they can't play concise music .... still

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 17 May 2008 07:05 (seventeen years ago)

s1ocki, Saturday, 17 May 2008 07:15 (seventeen years ago)

see the problem is, you find someone who's like jaw-droppingly awesome, like this guy:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=312535213

but how can you send him a message asking "do you do weddings?" without him thinking it's a joke.

Ten songs to be played in weddings...

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 17 May 2008 09:38 (seventeen years ago)

he won't think it's a joke. musicians like money! i know some mad respected dudes who have done weddings.

Jordan, Saturday, 17 May 2008 14:03 (seventeen years ago)

I want Laibach to play my wedding

latebloomer, Saturday, 17 May 2008 14:33 (seventeen years ago)

if you make it clear that you know what kind of music he plays & dig it, and you're not just asking him because he's a musician who lives nearby, i'm sure he'd be thrilled. or at least, amused.
