In my old office, the "ding" of the elevator sounded like a particular passage from Jon Brion's I Heart Huckabees score.

I sat in a hospital 10 years ago that emitted a droning hum (from heating vents, maybe?) that sounded like "Jenny Ondioline." Or at least it provided a good starting point for me to quietly sing "Jenny Ondioline" on top of it.

I knew there was another thread, but couldn't remember to use the search word "swivel".

When I got to the hospital room where my dad was in a coma, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why the hospital felt obliged to pipe in Kenny Fucking G over the PA system. After awhile, I realized that the reedy saxophone sound was coming from his ventilator.

(Dad's okay now. Still hate Kenny G though.)

I really vividly remember hearing a dog bark about 11 years ago and it sounding like the noise at the start of Sure Shot by the Beastie Boys, but that might be a sample of a dog barking and I can't be arsed to check

The squeaking door at my workplace is the exact same pitch Eno hits in the middle of his synth solo in Roxy Music's "Editions Of You."

I stayed in a hotel once where the elevator 'ding' sound when it arrived at a floor was really similiar to the first keyboard note on Ted Leo's The Tyranny of Distance and proceeded to keep "Biomusicology" in my head that entire week.

Plenty of self closing doors sound like John Cale viola drones.

Actually, I was sitting in a train station in Champaign, Illinois once, listening to the Tyranny of Distance in which the sound that went off before every announcement was a ringer for that whole first keyboard bit of "Biomusicology."

In subway stations in Toronto, the music that precedes announcements sounds like the first part of "Kung Fu Fighting".

The Wild Oats store here (now closed) had a sound when they interrupted the background music that sounded like the opening keyboard bit from Blues Image "Ride Captain Ride." I never got tired of hearing that.

And a disk drive (one of the big, multi-platter removable ones) where I used to work made a grinding sound like this sound from one of Yo La Tengo's songs (mid-period, can't remember which song).

I worked in a pharmacy whose dot matrix script printer emitted a whine that totally sounded like a sonic youth guitar jam. I probably said this on that other thread come to think of it.

There's a pharmacy on University Place where every time you walk in and out of their door, there's this two-note chime that sounds like the first two notes of the riff of "Meninblack" by the Stranglers.
