i'm voting gyroscope w/ what do you want me to say and back and forth close behind

this is tough. album feels a little dated and less perfect now, but I still fuck with most of these songs big time.

girl o' clock and i love a magician are my two least favorites i think. kinda lovable messes tho.

the chorus of gyroscope remains one of my favorite things ever. the whole song is basically perfect tho, from the keyboard parts in between first and second verses to the way they totally behead the song at the end

I just put this on in shuffle and it put all those spazzy fast tracks up first, most of those still sound great to me, it's some of the more maudlin stuff that hasn't aged as well. "Memory Machine" might have to be my vote, not sure yet.

"You Are Invited" is totally ace.

back and forth is a pretty breathtaking conclusion and i'll vote for that but it could really be almost any of these depending on my mood

I think I forgot to vote. "You Are Invited" tied for #1 is a little wtf, but I'm pretty happy with the rest of the order.

"You Are Invited" is probably the one song on the album that went from my top 3 to my bottom 3 over the years.

wow shotgun poll. i would have voted had i even noticed it. 'back and forth' takes the prize for me, but i could extend a lot of love to about three quarters of these songs.

actually 'the city' stands up best for me, having just listened to the album earlier for the first time in a while.

the good thing about "you are invited" is when the drums take over for the drum machine, but the lyrics are so cheesy and terrible

I like both, but neither would be my favourite on the relevant album. (Back & Forth, perhaps, and One Too Many Blows To The Head.)

If I had to vote over again, I might go with "What Do You Want to Me to Say."

back and forth - the deepest shit he ever wrote - deeper than the deep shit on change which was way less catchy at any rate

"back and forth" is a great song but the contrast between the talky verses and the singalong chorus makes it feel like less of a songwriting triumph than a lot of the other tracks imo

lol, i always felt that when he was singing he really wanted to just be talking but was like "aw shit, i'm in a band"
