we didn't already do this right?

i'm voting gyroscope w/ what do you want me to say and back and forth close behind

J0rdan S., Saturday, 17 May 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

this is tough. album feels a little dated and less perfect now, but I still fuck with most of these songs big time.

Alex in Baltimore, Saturday, 17 May 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

girl o' clock and i love a magician are my two least favorites i think. kinda lovable messes tho.

the chorus of gyroscope remains one of my favorite things ever. the whole song is basically perfect tho, from the keyboard parts in between first and second verses to the way they totally behead the song at the end

J0rdan S., Saturday, 17 May 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

I just put this on in shuffle and it put all those spazzy fast tracks up first, most of those still sound great to me, it's some of the more maudlin stuff that hasn't aged as well. "Memory Machine" might have to be my vote, not sure yet.

Alex in Baltimore, Saturday, 17 May 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

"You Are Invited" is totally ace.

Euler, Saturday, 17 May 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

A Life Of Possibilities

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 17 May 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

i like the maudlin ones. spider in the snow maybe?

horseshoe, Saturday, 17 May 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

"You Are Invited," just for when it launches into that chorus. "What Do You Want Me To Say" close behind. They were pretty unique, huh?

Savannah Smiles, Saturday, 17 May 2008 23:09 (seventeen years ago)

this album is still great

back and forth is a pretty breathtaking conclusion and i'll vote for that but it could really be almost any of these depending on my mood

ciderpress, Sunday, 18 May 2008 05:02 (seventeen years ago)

what do you want me to say?'s chorus is so fucking weezer

ciderpress, Sunday, 18 May 2008 05:06 (seventeen years ago)

"the city" was my brodown jam back in the day

gr8080, Sunday, 18 May 2008 05:15 (seventeen years ago)

spider in the snow i s pretty much beautiful in every single way

sleepingbag, Sunday, 18 May 2008 07:51 (seventeen years ago)

Voted "The City" without much hesitation.

jaymc, Sunday, 18 May 2008 07:52 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

How the heck could I have been the only one voting for A Life Of Possibilities? For the love of God people.

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 00:27 (seventeen years ago)

what do you want me to say 0

wtf ^

stephen, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

I think I forgot to vote. "You Are Invited" tied for #1 is a little wtf, but I'm pretty happy with the rest of the order.

bernard snowy, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 11:15 (seventeen years ago)

"You Are Invited" is probably the one song on the album that went from my top 3 to my bottom 3 over the years.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 12:56 (seventeen years ago)

Alex in Baltimore on the money - had a noticed poll, 'Memory Machine' would have gotten another vote.

BlackIronPrison, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

wow shotgun poll. i would have voted had i even noticed it. 'back and forth' takes the prize for me, but i could extend a lot of love to about three quarters of these songs.

Charlie Howard, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 15:33 (seventeen years ago)

actually 'the city' stands up best for me, having just listened to the album earlier for the first time in a while.

Charlie Howard, Thursday, 22 May 2008 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

I love this record. How did I miss this poll?

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

i would have voted for 'the city,' one of my favorite bridges ever

n/a, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

'you are invited' is one of the worst songs on this album

n/a, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

'you are invited' is one of the worst best songs on this album

Euler, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:46 (seventeen years ago)

good discussion, no?

Euler, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

my guess is the people who like "you are invited" also really really like "the ice of boston" right?

n/a, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

the good thing about "you are invited" is when the drums take over for the drum machine, but the lyrics are so cheesy and terrible

n/a, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:50 (seventeen years ago)

I like both, but neither would be my favourite on the relevant album. (Back & Forth, perhaps, and One Too Many Blows To The Head.)

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

Wait, I like "The Ice of Boston" a lot, but I don't like "You Are Invited."

If I had to vote over again, I might go with "What Do You Want to Me to Say."

jaymc, Thursday, 22 May 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

three years pass...

back and forth - the deepest shit he ever wrote - deeper than the deep shit on change which was way less catchy at any rate

lil jon & vangelis (fennel cartwright), Friday, 11 November 2011 12:47 (thirteen years ago)

"back and forth" is a great song but the contrast between the talky verses and the singalong chorus makes it feel like less of a songwriting triumph than a lot of the other tracks imo

some dude, Friday, 11 November 2011 12:53 (thirteen years ago)

lol, i always felt that when he was singing he really wanted to just be talking but was like "aw shit, i'm in a band"
