^^^ This. A few years ago, there was some Pitchfork feature about "Bands to Watch." Of the acts profiled in the article, I think only The Hold Steady and Ratatat ever made any sort of real mark.

i like these dudes ok

does this have more of the almost-housey sound like the 1st half of wildcat

I know I'm the only person on the planet who thinks this, but I seriously think one of the big label rappers should hire them to properly produce tracks. Those remix discs they've done are a lot of fun.

Also, they have a song called "Tacobel Canon" fer cryin' out loud!

Savannah Smiles, Sunday, 25 May 2008 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

the remix disc is aite but those beats would sound like shit on any major label album

would def need to ghost for somebody who could put some actual bass & drums on that before any of that shit went to radio

Ratatat

ya for sure, i think their rap remixes are fun but i can't even listen to the remix disc all the way through.

i have nothing concrete to say about this album yet.

but i really liked the second one!

one month passes...

LOVE THIS SHIT.

This new one stirred me up more than Classics did, but just like both of their other releases (remixes vols. 1 and 2 excluded), it didn't take me long to forget about it and stop listening.

Those hip-hop remixes are (for the most part) still the shit.

soundofair, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 22:40 (seventeen years ago)

I'm still digesting the new one, but it certainly seems more playful and less reliant on big, obvious beats than the last two. I think it suffers from the lack of a standout along the lines of "Seventeen Years" or "Lex".

I just really enjoy them even though they're somewhat predictable, very similar to the way in which I listen to Fujiya and Miyagi. I also enjoy their remixes in different ways, and thye have some great slaps on those discs too. I give them a thumbs up.

Caveat - wasn't one guy a guitarist in Dashboard Confessional?

I like and enjoy their music, sometimes take a lot of sensual pleasure from it, think they even put on a decent show ... but something keeps me at arm's length. I can't do any more than blandly appreciate Ratatat. They make me feel nothing -- nothing I keep with me after the music stops. Maybe it's that their taste and restraint are too sophisticated for my coarsened sensibilities, but as pleasant as it is, I think they make very empty music.

patrick bateman write-a-like contest?

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 24 July 2008 00:09 (seventeen years ago)

I really dug the first one, and grew to enjoy the second one, but LP3 has gone too far off the deep end for me. What happened to those awesome grooves? I mean, stuff like "Mirando" sounds kind of cool at first, but they don't seem to care anymore about those prog-ish hooks.

Nhex, Thursday, 24 July 2008 01:43 (seventeen years ago)

this is pretty, i like it, the end

Dimension 5ive, Thursday, 24 July 2008 05:53 (seventeen years ago)

On first blush, this feels really antiseptic.
