and maybe if you tried something funny like really turning down your snares and having a really loud, distinct hat on the third?

That is funny.

I hope some of those idiots read this, then they'll realise how stupid they are for discussing methods of production amongst themselves

Thanks for the link. Some semi-interesting things on the production boards.

We are probably at that point:

Dubstep is the Nu-metal of dance music.

The new ska-punk I reckon. For every popular song in the world there's at least one comedy ska or dubstep version.

I was listening to the Pet Shop Boys the other day and there was a song that began with a "dubstep wobble" dating from the mid-80s. I wish I could remember which because it shows the Britney dubstep Freakshow people up for the disgusting savages that they are.

Just... why? I guess something like this would have been considered kind of interesting and novel if the approach had been taken in 1995 with jungle or something. It's probably the internet's fault but I've got less and less time for this kind of shit. When Bill Bailey covered Radiohead's "Creep" in a Bhangra style, it wasn't funny or new or interesting or anything, it was just a kind of desperate mashup of two things so that Bailey could say "Look, look how clever I am". And now this? Dubstep as a genre is following a strangely similar trajectory as Metallica.

Every British genre has this moment, seemingly.

Matt DC, Monday, 6 June 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I guess. Currently moving from its jump-up phase to coffeetable phase. Sadly we have the double whammy of an impending triphop/chillout revival to contend with, so everything's going to sound like a half-step Morcheeba, so we've got that to look forward to.

Who is today's equivalent of Trent Reznor? And whose flagging career's going to take an ill-advised dubstep turn a la Bowie with drum'n'bass?

I'm all for a bit of a chillout revival as long as it doesn't involve T. Yorke.
