1) Stool Pigeon, by Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Selling out your fellow Gs never sounded so groovy, funky, bouncy, hooky, coolie. The best song Prince never wrote.

Two songs are borrowed from the debut, since the debut sold nada copies and was out of print (already!): "Joey's On The Street Again," the third-best Springsteen song Bruce never wrote (#1: "The Boys Are Back In Town," by Thin Lizzy, who shared a lot in common with the Rats), and a stunning lust ode to a slut, "Mary of the 4th Form," - you can practically feel the lecherous drool trickle down your thighs. One of the better leerers that Mick Jagger never wrote, then. There's also a song that makes fun of Howard Hughes, one that attacks newspapers (Geldof is an ex-journalist), a kinetic Costello/Parker-style rocker about the opposite sex, "She's So Modern," and some other neat stuff. Probably the best track is the second-best song Springsteen never wrote, "Rat Trap," in which our working-class hero claims that he's "Gonna get out of school/Work in some factory," and makes it sound like something to actually look forward to.
A song like "Glad Girls" starts out like the best song Big Star never wrote and quickly, and I mean quickly, turns into a repetitive snorefest.

Those are all randomly gleaned from Google. (I don't hear much Prince in Kid Creole at all, unless Prince is your only reference point for funk. Maybe something like "Sexy MF," I guess.)

Pet peeve of the day: Taking out the first _____ in this construction, as has happened several times in this thread. I'm okay with the idea that Beck wrote all the greatest songs in human history, with Bran Van 3000 being the highest-ranking non-Beck performer, but it doesn't seem to be quite the idea of this thread....
