damn I voted "The Landscape Is Changing" but now I want to change my vote to "And Then..."

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 30 May 2008 06:45 (seventeen years ago)

I voted "The Landscape Is Changing" and don't want to change my vote ever. "Told You So" is also marvellous though. Those two are my favourite Depeche Mode songs, even better than any or their singles. Single b-side from the same era, "Fools", is ace as well.

(And this is of course the best Depeche album)

Geir Hongro, Friday, 30 May 2008 09:15 (seventeen years ago)

And, before you go further, a "Some Great Reward" poll would be fine, but I believe we've already done most of the albums following that one. :)

Geir Hongro, Friday, 30 May 2008 09:17 (seventeen years ago)

Geir, what's your take on "Pipeline"? I figured it would be too clangy and abstract for your taste, so I've always been a bit surprised that this is your favourite DM album.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Friday, 30 May 2008 11:52 (seventeen years ago)

"Everything Counts" FTW, one of their best ever songs.

stephen, Friday, 30 May 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

I guess "Landscape" is really a better vote since "And Then..." sounds more like Some Great Reward

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 30 May 2008 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

and it totally makes sense to me that this album is Geir's favorite -- A Broken Frame through Black Celebration is my favorite period of Depeche because their melodies were strongest and most lyrical then. This album is kind of the most pure mix of their earlier innocent pop with their later industrial/cinematic sound.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

oh, how could it be anything other than "everything counts"?!?

Eisbaer, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

Geir, what's your take on "Pipeline"?

Weakest track on "Construction Time Again", but those ping pong balls are surely great :)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 07:06 (seventeen years ago)

the grabbing hands grab all they can all for themselves after all

come on. this isn't even close

Charlie Howard, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 07:40 (seventeen years ago)

it's gonna be "everything counts" in a landslide...

stephen, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:14 (seventeen years ago)

"Love, in Itself," tho I can never tell if I hate the synth horns or not.

Abbott, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)

'The grabbing hands grab all they can' always brings Hamburglar to mind and I expect a 'robblr robble' to pop up in the sing.

Abbott, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)

i voted for SHAME

Nice to see "The Landscape Is Changing" doing so well beneath the singles.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 5 June 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

it would've been amusing to see "more than a party" get a vote ... and "pipeline" (legitimately) deserved some love.

though i voted for "everything counts."

Eisbaer, Thursday, 5 June 2008 04:04 (seventeen years ago)

six years pass...

Would have voted for 'Two Minute Warning', which I still feel is one of their most underrated tracks. Wilder's other contribution here, 'The Landscape Is Changing', has never been one of my favourites and I'd definitely place it at the bottom of the pile (excellent outro, but that doesn't really save it for me) alongside 'Shame', although it's great to hear the panned percussion on headphones on that track.

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Wednesday, 8 April 2015 22:55 (ten years ago)

Yeah "Two Minute Warning" is pretty great. The way the chorus opens up out of nowhere always gets me, really pretty. Don't remember if I voted in this poll but I would have just thrown another vote at "Love, in Itself", which is a weirdly awesome song even for them.
