If you've heard nothing else, you've probably at least heard "She" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-IEptPCHEQ). That song alone installs him in the classic column as far as I'm concerned, but the rest of his English language recordings are equally great to a somewhat freakishly flawless degree. Wicked sense of humor he's got.

Listening to Halliday and Aznavour, perhaps the two enduring great musical heroes in France's history, it's no surprise that when rock'n'roll (as developped by other english speaking countries) never quite made a whole lot of sense. All the while most interesting french speaking artists today work within the chanson and pop framework.
