d'julz is a good sign
― moonship journey to baja, Monday, 2 June 2008 06:32 (sixteen years ago)
m83 is a bad sign, though
Johnny D is a really bad sign.
― J@cob, Monday, 2 June 2008 06:35 (sixteen years ago)
Glad that Los Updates'll get more exposure ... oh god, the thought of that Tiefschwarz rmx of Phuture stresses me out, how long is it gonna be before someone like Does It Offend You, Yeah? try & remix "Your Only Friend" etc etc.

jesus, way to harsh a buzz!!
― haitch, Monday, 2 June 2008 06:48 (sixteen years ago)
his sci.fi. mix was good. his recent bbc essential mix was dullville. not sure about this.
is that a recent kenny larkin tune? i really really don't need to hear another remix of 'good life' (seriously).

11 Inner City – Good Love (Luciano Remix) – KMS
― elan, Monday, 2 June 2008 13:16 (sixteen years ago)
very very disappointing, this. I think it has the same problem as his Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi mix - takes ages to get through all the minimal (this time lord help us tribal bongo minimal) before any other flavours kick in. And by that time, it's all over.
The best track is the last one: Chymera's 'Arabesque', which closes out the mix (seven or eight minutes long) - something different & unexpected
― good dog, Monday, 2 June 2008 13:30 (sixteen years ago)
'the same problem as his sci.fi.hi.fi mix' => but for me there are NO problems with his scifihifi mix!
!exciiiitement!

Arabesque is awesome though - a real trance anthem done proper http://www.myspace.com/chymeramusic

shit, i thought this was gonna be luciano the reggae artist.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 2 June 2008 14:11 (sixteen years ago)
New Larkin, yes.
Inner City should've made a track titled "Bug Fin," too.

i really like this mix, it's a good balance of crooked techno and warmer housey stuff

arabesque at the end of a luciano mix -- what a shock.

zing-culture. he played it last in Dublin too.
this mix looks good, I look forward to hearing it.
― Ronan, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 09:37 (sixteen years ago)
this looks ace. can't wait to hear his los updates remix. and that tiefschwarz remix of "rise from your gwave" is the bomb!

This is much better than this thread led me to believe.

But it works with Jungle Beatz over the top.
This track is great. Unfortunately I can't seem to track down an unmixed version of it from any of the online mp3 shops or blogs.
― I am using your worlds, Monday, 7 July 2008 22:40 (sixteen years ago)
it's certainly over the top

does planet e not do digital then? that luciano remix of 'good love' is definitely out there on 12".
― haitch, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 00:46 (sixteen years ago)
HAPPY FACE EMOTICON!
I like this even more than Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi actually, it just BUMPS, right from the start. I really don't get where Good Dog is coming from with that criticism.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 31 July 2008 19:19 (sixteen years ago)
maybe it is just me, but i only like the second half of this mix. the rest makes me minimally sleepy.
― the table is the table, Thursday, 31 July 2008 21:55 (sixteen years ago)
3-4 bpm too fast
― jergins, Thursday, 31 July 2008 21:56 (sixteen years ago)
I'm sort of halfway between good dog and matt on this one: the second half (esp. owing to the massive Arabesque track, the "Good Life" remix and the ever-reliable "Albertino") is stronger than the first, but I still like it the whole way through.
It is a shame, though, that there's no commercially available mix like his best live sets from the past twelve months. I think the Resident Advisor review is spot on when it notes that only people who have heard some of those sets will find anything to complain about in the Fabric mix - everyone else won't know what they're missing.

Tim F right on-- after seeing him live twice and hearing a bunch of his live sets, i was just underwhelmed. felt like the second half sort of approximated the live feel best.
― the table is the table, Friday, 1 August 2008 00:33 (sixteen years ago)
alright, s/d recent sets then?
silo club 5/16 & kristal glam 10/27, from last year, have been my driving theme for months. so good!!
just got raum barcelona 9/16 and live @ 10 days off 06, but these are old - what else??
― lucas pine, Friday, 1 August 2008 02:17 (sixteen years ago)
SODOMA 7.12.2005 - still the best i've heard but yeah, old
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 1 August 2008 02:32 (sixteen years ago)
Oh God, Imagine what it would have been like to actually be at that silo club night. I mean, I rarely listen to a mixes several times, especially recordings of sets, but whew.
― mehlt, Friday, 1 August 2008 02:41 (sixteen years ago)
There was a good one from Christmas Day 2007 too but I think I've lost it.
Otherwise I completely cosign silo club and krystal glam.
― Tim F, Friday, 1 August 2008 04:03 (sixteen years ago)
hmm, I used to sell that particular experience. wouldn't mind my cut of his fee these days!
― blunt, Friday, 1 August 2008 05:33 (sixteen years ago)
I saw Luciano few weeks ago and he opened with nesrib and orbitalife. disappointing. i was expecting his deep openers.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:10 (sixteen years ago)
I am seemingly the only person who doesn't like Orbitalife. Nesrib is awesome though.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:16 (sixteen years ago)
And hey if anyone wants to link to any of those sets they're repping that would be very nice.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:17 (sixteen years ago)
I saw him last week and it was dreadfully disappointing. not him so much as the sound: all you could hear was an indistinct bassy thump, so it sounded like he played the exact same track all night. At first i thought it was the track selection (and to be sure recent sets I've heard have been much more minimal than his populist peak last year, albeit in a psychedelic safari kinda way), but then I started to vaguely recognise (the bottom end of) some tracks, like the one that opens the Silo Club set. It's very frustrating to be on a dance floor, not too far from the DJ, and thinking "if I could actually hear properly the track that's playing I could really enjoy myself..."
Matt, search "site:megaupload.com luciano" and you should find most of them. To narrow down throw in "silo" or "krystal" or "esse".
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:20 (sixteen years ago)
luciano has fallen off a giant cliff over the past few years.
you're definitely not the only person who doesn't like orbitalife...
― resolved, Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:21 (sixteen years ago)
i don't dislike 'orbitalife' but it's not exactly a favourite.
― lex pretend, Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:30 (sixteen years ago)
Hard to imagine hating "Nesrib"
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:37 (sixteen years ago)
I'm indifferent about orbitalife as a single, but I enjoy it in mixes.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:42 (sixteen years ago)

― Tim F, Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:53 (sixteen years ago)
Were Luciano sets always so housey?
― sam500, Thursday, 11 December 2008 13:59 (sixteen years ago)
he's always played a lot of classic house in his sets, yes. but of course all the contemporary european house he's playing now is a recent trend.
― resolved, Thursday, 11 December 2008 14:10 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah but the classic house quota jumped dramatically early last year. He's backing away from it now a bit, perhaps because everyone jumped on that sound. He was quite housey when I saw him last week but recent sets I've heard have been much more tribal-minimal along the lines of actual Cadenza output.
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 December 2008 22:30 (sixteen years ago)
wow @ tribute to the sun!
― Dominique, Friday, 4 December 2009 16:22 (fifteen years ago)

― Crackle Box, Friday, 4 December 2009 20:56 (fifteen years ago)
the record is a beezer. One of my favourite's of the year. Though I've not listened to it enough.
― Pedro Paramore (jim), Saturday, 5 December 2009 01:46 (fifteen years ago)
to talk about the fabric mix that this thread is about - definitely a letdown. Always go for mix from Kristal in Bucharest, December 2007 mentioned upthread instead of it. Some overlap in tracks but the Kristal one is longer and just plain better. Still never seen Luciano pinchando en vivo :(
― Pedro Paramore (jim), Saturday, 5 December 2009 02:00 (fifteen years ago)
Was never a huge fan of the Luciano mix. Still, it introduced me to Orbitalife by Johnny D, so I can't moan.
― Dwight Yorke, Saturday, 5 December 2009 13:17 (fifteen years ago)
Silo Club 16.05.2007 is still my favorite Luciano mix and one of my all time top favorite mixes ever
― Tracer Hand, Saturday, 5 December 2009 13:39 (fifteen years ago)
well, either that or SODOMA.. who can choose??
― Tracer Hand, Saturday, 5 December 2009 13:41 (fifteen years ago)
I haven't heard any of the new album, as I feel very unmotivated to do so. At this point most of me just wants him to build on his Mental Groove era material.
I just want him to make my head explode like he does with stuff like:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijwDmJnxps8

"octogonal" is the best. it's like the ultimate convergance of basic channel, epic detroit strings and delicate latin percussion.
― rionat, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 12:24 (fifteen years ago)
That's actually a great description. I didn't mean to bump this thread just to rag on Luciano, though. I'm just kind of curious about mapping out where he's going and wondering if I should be expecting another Limonada de Pepe Bombilla stlye epic (the last of which I guess was his shut up and dance contribution, and I guess stuff on off that 2XLP he released on Cadenza a few years back).
― EDB, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 15:30 (fifteen years ago)
the album is awesome.
― Pedro Paramore (jim), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago)
Will give it it's proper due, then. I think the album cover was enough to cloud my senses and put me off (honestly, what the fuck was he thinking? Cadenza's design is almost always awesome, deviating from its characteristic style is fine, but when it's that picture of himself, in that T-shirt, I mean c'mon. I'm tempted to chalk this up to the sort of fantastical narcissism and drop in sartorial sense that accompanies DJ stardom.
― EDB, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:04 (fifteen years ago)
the 1/2, 2/2 set on Mental Groove, Punching the Mango and whatever else, is fantastic. Also check his EP on Bruechtstucke too. The one with the vocal that says 'When The People Will Come' is my fav. Luciano ever.

The new album has been growing on me. When he lets the beats flow without getting too hung up on including a bunch of complicated percussion*, he's on (e.g. "Hang For Bruno").
* yeah, I know this is sort of the whole point of the album.
