I didn't see a thread for this. This song caught my ear on the online radio today and I think it's easily one of the more pleasantly whimsical and, oddly enough, funny political songs I can remember from the past few years. It doesn't even really try to be funny (though sadly there's a stale reference to Chuck Norris) but the name Barack Obama so perfectly fits in a reggae song it's a wonder someone didn't think of this sooner. It's almost like something from Chappelle Show. Do I smell an anthem?

It's a nice tune and seems to come from a genuine place. Good for them.

Mavado's "We Need Barack" on Mission Riddim is also worth listening to.

I wrote about the Cocoa Tea song here:

the obama tune could maybe stand to be a minute shorter but otherwise it's great
fuck knows what the point of xhuxk's review is other than needlessly picking apart the dude's spelling on myspace, which is funny cuz you misspell "demonstrate" a couple sentences later
― am0n, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 01:19 (sixteen years ago)
am0n if that goofy spelling doesn't strike you as somewhat lulzworthy then you are pretty humorless
I mean c'mon dude, "Obamaha"? you cant get one tiny lulz from "Obamaha"?
― J0hn D., Tuesday, 3 June 2008 01:27 (sixteen years ago)
demonstate is funnier
― am0n, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 01:45 (sixteen years ago)
has the campaign used this at all yet? seems like the big one is still wyclef's
― am0n, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 01:49 (sixteen years ago)
this thing has been out for at least a month, I got it off emusic a while back. not like everybody doesn't already know this but reggae has a long tradition of topical/political songs, I'm a little surprised there aren't a lot more songs like this.
― J0hn D., Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:01 (sixteen years ago)

"we need barack" is actually my ringtone lolol
― The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:07 (sixteen years ago)
guessing J0hn doesn't find seaga's use of t.o.k.'s 'chi-chi man' on the campaign trail particularly lulzworthy :((((
― am0n, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:08 (sixteen years ago)
no, j0hn turned down his 77 invites 'cause he's not interested homie
― J0hn D., Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:15 (sixteen years ago)
that mighty sparrow jam is awesome tho
― J0hn D., Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:19 (sixteen years ago)
you can turn down 77 invites?
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:21 (sixteen years ago)
somebody offers to tell you how to get there, you don't bother - I assumed it was an invite system but I'm one of them sourpusses who thinks the whole notion of having 77 is kinda pathetic so it was like "nah man thanks tho"
― J0hn D., Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:23 (sixteen years ago)
everyone gets a delicious artichoke/asiago spread on arrival though!
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:40 (sixteen years ago)
damn u s10cki you know cheese is my weakness
― J0hn D., Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:41 (sixteen years ago)
it's called 77 because there are actually 77 cheeses to choose from every day
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:43 (sixteen years ago)
have a nice cheese
― deeznuts, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:44 (sixteen years ago)
there have been rumors that it's actually because 77 is the molecular weight of 7-Wensleydale-7-Cracker aka the storied "cheese molecule"
― J0hn D., Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:53 (sixteen years ago)
mmm.
i bought an amazing goat cheese out of the back of a pickup truck last week, i'm going to pass it around down 77 way.
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:56 (sixteen years ago)

― J0hn D., Tuesday, 3 June 2008 03:07 (sixteen years ago)
i would start w/ the pie one move counterclockwise skip the bleu cheese lookin thing eat the circular cheese then cook up some hot wings & eat them w/ the moldy lookin cheeses
― deeznuts, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 03:09 (sixteen years ago)
I personally would prepare a blue cheese and walnut plate and eat it while listening to Cocoa Tea's "Biological Warfare"
