Sugababes: Classic Or Dud?

Well I say dud, but plenty of other 'reputable' critics claim that the Sugababes have still maintained their edgy pop sound, I say no. First they started out with Keisha, Mutya and Siobhan and were quite refreshingly dark pop with an indie flavour then Siobhan left claiming Mutya and Keisha were cliquey bitchy and something about 'creative differences' then she went on to stunning failure on her own, she was replaced with the perma blonde not too bright yet vocally impressive Heidi and for a while Sugababes seemed solid.
Then they released 'Three' Mutya left after having a baby and was replaced by a Stepford wives version of herself-Amella-who spoke and acted like a Northern coal miner. Classic songs; Round Round, Run For Cover, Too Lost In You, Shape, Stronger etc but with Mutya (some have likened her to a poppier sober version of Amy Winehouse) gone Sugababes have rapidly decreased in quality case in point; covering Run DMC and Aerosmith's 'Walk This Way' with Girls Aloud who were far too white for that song. Tyler had this to say about the song; 'It is what it is'
To sum up I'll qoute/paraphrase Jennifer Aniston in the much underrated 'Rock Star' "All the fucking talent (Mutya Buena)that was in this band just walked out the fucking room).
So are they CLASSIC OR DUD?

I guess they know how you feel about them now, heh.

that's the condensed history of the sugababes right there.

I've always like them, though they haven't done anything good for a few years. What's this 'indie flavour'? I'd say they're pure pop with a slight RnBish hue and, yes, a dark undercurrent.

Great singles, blah albums. And way too many ballads. Dud, I guess.

Classic!

LOL. That cover is absolute rubbish but it's hardly the Sugababes (or GA's) fault, is it? Someone just had a very bad idea.

There was a taste of indie (lite) to their first album but then obviously the times they were a changing so Siobhan legged it
P.S: Round Round video was a blatant rip off of So Solid Crews seminal 21 Seconds vid...

Second and third albums pretty consistently good all the way through, as well as pretty terrific singles choices all along their career. Didn't bother with their last album, partly because they rereleased the previous one with new cover and redubbed vocals after Mutya left, which was SUPER Orwellian and a bit scary, but mainly due to the fact that my early-mid 20s pop phase had ended.

one year passes...

The revolving door continues...the internet is all atwitter that Amelle has left the group. So far the only source is some 3rd rate tabloid but no one's denied it yet.

Jade Ewen is her replacement. Apparently.

If so then this must have been in work for a while. Regardless of what's really happening it's bizarre, Keisha in particular twitters like crazy but she hasn't updated in a day and she just made her account private.

According to their website, Keisha's out! There are no original members of the band left! Time to give it up?

!Alicia!, Monday, 21 September 2009 19:18 (sixteen years ago)

Awesome lols.

There are no original members of the band left!

They're the Napalm Death of pop.

@mutyabuena I will say this publicly...shame on Heidi for not following Keisha out. But doesn't surprise me a bit. x

they're the Trigger's broom of dehumanised nihilpop

Mutya's twitter is fake, pretty sure about that.

This is all a bit insane, I should have realized that recruiting a black person meant Keisha was out, how could I have been so blind?
