New Order's Technique vs Depeche Mode's Violator POLL

i sorta like depeche mode but how can this not be new order?

Technique is the jam.

This is like one of those King Solomon choices, where I'm gonna have to cut up a baby.

Technique easy. I love Violator, but it's a flawed good album (don't care for "Clean" or "Blue Dress"). Then again, Sumner could never manage the dirty, stupid melodramatic rush of "Halo."

because Violator is one of the premiere albums of the 20th century :O !!

I think I'll abstain. The highs are higher on 'Technique' but 'Violator' is maybe slightly more consistent.

"Violator" by a landslide. Never understood what's so great about "Technique" - New Order's mid 80s output is much better.

What is great about Technique:

"Fine Time", "Love Less", "Round and Round", "Guilty Partner", "Run", "Mr. Disco", "Vanishing Point", "Dream Attack"

What is great about Violator:

"World In My Eyes", "Personal Jesus", "Waiting For The Night", "Halo", "Enjoy The Silence", "Policy of Truth", "Blue Dress", "Clean"

Why you no <3 sweetest perfection? My only problem with it is a few dodgy lyrics for the sake of a rhyme, specifially "undetectedly". The middle eight is... well, the sweetest perfection really.

my favourite NO album and my favourite DM album. light and shade. yin and yang. or something.

NO wins in a fraction of a heartbeart, though, by dint of technique being perhaps my favourite album of all time, yadda yadda.

Technique seems like he'd be more fun to have around.

Violator = not too bad, some really decent numbers, singles always welcome in the mix
Technique = actually good

look, that's how they sounded to me, that's all i'm saying. i don't think giving them a more respectful listen would have improved my opinion.

With all due respect this is just plain wrong. Or if it isn't I'm sure I'd like OMD a whole more than I do because this is one of my favourite NO tracks. As I've said before though I have no critical ability when it comes to NO, so you might be right.

I'm not fully acquainted with OMD's catalogue, but "Run"'s outro doesn't sound anything like OMD.

i am one of ILX's biggest OMD cheerleaders. "run" is one of my favourite new order songs of all time.

i hear less than 0 OMD in it. ledge, elaborate and elucidate! which song(s) does it remind you of? i'm fascinated by this comparison.

and also, really, listen to the album properly some time because ... well, because it's godlike!

It was just a feeling, not based on anything specific. I guess I was thinking of something like "If You Leave"... (so the "sub" qualifier was particularly unfair since that itself is a rather sub-OMD effort). Y'know it just sounds to me like generic 80s synth/guitar pop. Barney's vocals sound particularly flat and non-commital.

This is total lulz. The mixes on Substance are complete garbage, and 100% of Technique is godhead.

I voted for Technique

I absolutely despise all three singles from Violator. Don't care what the rest sounds like either. They should have given "Personal Jesus" to Johnny Cash instead of recording their own version.

Technique is not one of my fave New Order albums, but there's no contest here. There's a lot of stuff by DM that just plain irritates me.

Technique for me, and now I'm going to start a band called Run OMD!

i still like violator more. generally speaking i like new order much much much more than them, but they're beat here.

ha, still think this is true in regards to this poll. Technique is the better album but i think Violator is better than any other New Order album.

the thing about Depeche Mode in regards to me is that every girl i have ever fallen madly in love with have been huge, gigantic fan of this stupid band. consequently, i have seen them live around 12 times, last time was with Primal Scream. so they have always belong to someone else more than myself.

New Order on the other hand has been pure fanboy obsession.

when they're At That Age, girls succumb to Depeche Mode's aptitude for those Big Dumb Emotions.

I still think New Order are the better band but today I think I like Violator more than Technique. Just hearing "Halo" helps with this assessment.

Depeche Mode haven't made a great album since Speak and Spell. Lots of good songs though.

damn tough poll! there was a time when i considered technique as the top of the 80s, full stop. but idk these days. it still f'kn roolz (+ i'd probably still give a deep consideration for side 2 being the best thing released by anybody within about a four-five year radius) but... idk.

yeah but "Clean."

Alfie i love you but "Clean" is great and "Halo" is a misshapen song missing a proper second verse.

DM definitely peaked with "Violator". "Technique" is New Order's best album but they peaked with singles not from this album ("Regret", "Temptation", a few others).
