Were any of these songs even moderate hits?

Pillbox, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 03:15 (seventeen years ago)

I actually like at least three songs on this disc: the FNM/Boo-Yaa track, the Slayer/Ice-T one, and the Living Colour/Run-DMC one, which is actually my favorite of the three.

I went with the Del/Dinosaur Jr song.

I played this to death in high school. Here's a vote for "Fallin'".

j-rock, Monday, 16 June 2008 00:19 (seventeen years ago)

this is too hard.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 16 June 2008 01:23 (seventeen years ago)

OK, I'm going with "I Love You Mary Jane".

Here's the thing with that one and "Fallin'": in both cases the collaboration pushed the rap acts to new territory. With De La, it was aiming a song at everyone who hadn't heard them since 3 Feet High.... "You played yourself" is a great refrain.

"I Love You Mary Jane", not to sound to analytical about it, takes the standard Cypress Hill stoners and slips them some acid and watches them squirm and freak out, and that keeps the song from being a repeat from what they'd already done on every song on Black Sunday.

I Love You Mary Jane was the first place I ever heard that pick slide guitar trick.

My college radio station tormented us with "Just Another Victim" all through the summer of '93. UGH.

"I Love You Mary Jane" got some radio play around here.

But what did Teenage Fanclub even do? Compared to Tom Petty?

Raw Patrick, Monday, 16 June 2008 23:55 (seventeen years ago)

Dinosaur and Del were robbed.

Nice job on the thread title, btw.

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 06:10 (seventeen years ago)

this is a tie between "i love you mary jane" (which i still listen to) and "another body murdered" (for novelty / nostalgia value)

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 06:12 (seventeen years ago)

who the hell voted for "disorder", that track is awful

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 06:16 (seventeen years ago)

“I love you mary jane” was both the first cypress hill ans the first sonic youth song I heard. Was a popular download suggestion on audiogalaxy…. Or maybe I ended up downloading on napster or limewire or some other p2p.

After knowing more songs by both I thought for a long time I had downloaded some fake mash-up thing but it sounded ok for what it was.

It sounds like an absolute trainwreck to my ears now.
