electricsound, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 11:11 (seventeen years ago)

I saw a couple crates of used vinyl at a supermarket in Birmingham and it freaked me out.

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 11:13 (seventeen years ago)

Well, I guess by freaked me out I really mean raised an eyebrow.

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 11:14 (seventeen years ago)

did you grip?

electricsound, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 11:14 (seventeen years ago)

There's a supermarket on Portland?

Stewart Osborne, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 11:53 (seventeen years ago)

It's awesome that they interviewed Cathy from 2nd Avenue for this. She's probably the best person you could quote on the subject in the whole city.

Isn't Fred Meyer all up Kroger's thong?

Fred Meyer has always wanted to be the PacNW Wal*Mart, no?

Not to try to burst bubbles here, but...

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

Fred Meyer has been around, and doing the big box megastore thing decades before Walmart existed.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 07:00 (seventeen years ago)

ah, so Fred Meyer is a *seminal* megaoutlet store. RWTD. \m/\m/

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 07:02 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, basically

I probably sound hella provincial right now.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 07:19 (seventeen years ago)

where does Costco/Kirkland brand fit in the timeline?

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 07:26 (seventeen years ago)

Not established until 1983, apparently. Their format is pretty different to Freddy's, though. More public wholesaler than grocery+department. I guess Walmart falls somewhere in between.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 07:40 (seventeen years ago)

Man, I remember when the Fred Meyer's in Albany added a Burger King inside it in about 1980. I was horrified that my local supermarket had sold out.

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 08:55 (seventeen years ago)

But so tasty!
