antexit: what exactly is she even discussing?
antexit: how are you supposed to incorporate disco into your small business?

s1ocki, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:58 (seventeen years ago)

So while disco may be very popular in the clubs in New York and Montreal, will it play in Frederickton or Kelowna?

The Apple comes irresistibly to mind.

"They're from Moose Jaw!"

"Moose Jaw?"

"...I think it's in Canada."

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

So weird! I especially like what seems to be her assumption that a bunch of small-business owners read that Maclean's article and got all excited, and she has to calm them down.

jaymc, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

i am seriously seriously LOLing at this

s1ocki, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's the juxtaposition of her face and discussing Chromeo that sends me over the edge

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

just the idea that some kelowna sporting goods retailer or actuary would read about disco in maclean's and try to incorporate it into their business is making me giggle like a schoolgirl

It's pretty funny that a boring Canadian mag would bother with an article like that ... they got a quote from Andy Butler!

I think Ms. Ward is right to advice small business entrepreneurs to exercise caution. Riding the disco wave can be profitable, but suburban Montreal is littered with the legacy of disco small businesses now virtually abandoned, only occasionally frequented by sneering hipsters, looking to poke fun, and real disco enthusiasts, mourning the slow demise of their beloved art form.

Don't say no to disco, because you'll never get laid if you're dancing to emo.

VeronaInTheClub, Friday, 13 June 2008 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

i am gonna divest my stock in disco, sell while it is high.

pipecock, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:51 (seventeen years ago)

five months pass...

Disco greats like Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor are making comebacks, new bands like Hercules and Love Affair and Chromeo are making disco music, movies are being made about disco stars and disco's signature fashion house, Halston, has been revived.

But does all this make disco a good small business idea?

Maybe.
