No. Neither do I think that there ever was a "fountain down the road".

snoball, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

I for one would like to believe.

ENBB, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

i think he was too busy being addicted to heroin

banriquit, Friday, 13 June 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

It is certainly strange now that they're both fully grown.

El Tomboto, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

...and was she really called "Deborah" or did he chose that name because it rhymes with "suited ya".

daavid, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

?

daavid, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

it was because it rhymed with 'tetherer', i thing. she liked to tether things.

banriquit, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

think

banriquit, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

i think that there was a fountain down the road, that her name was not actually deborah, & that he did not meet up with her in the year 2000 but would've liked to

deeznuts, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

also her house was in fact very small w/ wood chip on the wall

she was not the first girl in school to get breasts but martin did say she was the best

deeznuts, Friday, 13 June 2008 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

Best things:

[1] the way in which it captures "a young person's" view of the passage of time as more of a hypothesis than a reality (which hypothesis is a salve for very real, sharp-end teenage torments).

[2] the desperation at the song's end *might* imply that it is indeed a sad character we're dealing with, but it finds liberation in his defeat.

Neil Willett, Friday, 13 June 2008 21:49 (seventeen years ago)

Worst things:

[1] Song is pretty gay
[2] Pulp suck

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 13 June 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

1. That's no kind of rendezvous. 2 o clock. The Fountain.

What day? afternoon or night? What?

Mark G, Friday, 13 June 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

Oh yeah, the girl was going to be called "Gloria" but the producer persuaded Jarvis that he'd lay himself open to plagiarism suit.

Mark G, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

jesus died for somebodies sins but not mine

sexyDancer, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

why is it that the only pulp songs most people know are among their most boring

if you want a jarvis autobiography special i recommend "david's last summer" or "wickerman" both of which are over 7 minutes long and kick "disco 2000" into a mcmuffin carton

Just got offed, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

McMuffins don't come in cartons

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:08 (seventeen years ago)

banriquit, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:14 (seventeen years ago)

You Can't be? Why, what happened?

Mark G, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:14 (seventeen years ago)

srsly dogg i heard fireworks this evening, saw the pretty ladies walking out...

banriquit, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:14 (seventeen years ago)

grimly fiendish, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:15 (seventeen years ago)

NO fuck that shit the only balls i'm going to are the ones my band is PLAYING at, i'm currently sat in my dressing-gown feeling a bit run-down and not at all envying those who are currently getting wasted for 100 quid

Just got offed, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:17 (seventeen years ago)

besides, i wouldn't have seen LOL FRANCE if i'd been a-raving.

and yeah if there's an LZBC meet it should almost certainly happen in a McD, anywhere else and there'd be class-related zing overload, also i could learn how each dish is served

Just got offed, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:20 (seventeen years ago)

Dude, Spoony's or nothing.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:20 (seventeen years ago)

not really sure how to play this one

banriquit, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

Cambridge Spoony's is I believe the biggest in the country. We could probably fit every active ILX member in there. I have a dream etc.

Just got offed, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

The song was covered by Nick Cave as a b-side for the single 'Bad Cover Version'.

Mark G, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)

^^ not really the thread for it, but: boy, what is up with people liking nick cave?

banriquit, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

What, you think they shouldn't?

I'm not a fan, but hey..

Oh, I do have that version of "Disco 2000" by Nick. It's OK.

Mark G, Friday, 13 June 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Sunday, 29 June 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

The idea that they did meet seems sadder than the idea that they didn't, somehow.

Sundar, Sunday, 29 June 2008 23:33 (seventeen years ago)

Supposedly there WAS a fountain down the road...

Mark G, Monday, 30 June 2008 07:08 (seventeen years ago)

After that song, 2000 seems to me like a pretty obvious year to arrange a reunion part for his class. Like most classes do from time to time.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 30 June 2008 07:40 (seventeen years ago)

...and was she really called "Deborah" or did he chose that name because it rhymes with "suited ya".

Could have been Sylvia as well. ;)

Geir Hongro, Monday, 30 June 2008 07:41 (seventeen years ago)

'Different Class' = largely shit, 'His 'N' Hers' = unadulterated genius.

Mister Craig, Monday, 30 June 2008 07:43 (seventeen years ago)

I like both, but agree that His'n'Hers >

Geir Hongro, Monday, 30 June 2008 07:51 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Monday, 30 June 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Fascinating.
