Cuz You Gotta Have Faith: The George Michael "Faith" Poll

i love "one more try" a lot.

Yeah, this was inspired by hearing "One More Try" on the drive home from Father's Day activities. He manages to sustain that intensity for six minutes.

oh, the 80's...the times when a synth keyboard and a drum machine was enough for playing a song. (see also "nothing compares to you")

Wish I could vote for the Jam-Lewis remix of "Monkey."

"Kissing a Fool". Beautiful song and his best ever vocal performance.

But fine for me if "One More Try" wins. That is the other one I would have picked here.

PS: I voted for "One More Try," one of the very best vocal performances from anyone in the decade.

I can't think of anyone who can belt that song without turning into a whiner.

Seriously such a good album.

I like "Older" better. "Faith" is kind of patchy - great ballads, but too many of the faster songs are a bit too repetitive.

hah I was just coming here to say this is easily "One More Try". one of my favorite 80s pop albums.

I like the lesser known tracks like "Hard Day" and "Hand to Mouth" a lot too.

have grown sick of Father Figure cos I sing it at karaoke so often. not its fault.

I always liked how George was a deftly talented vocalist that often minimized his full-voiced vocal acrobatics - granted he'd use them when the song called for it ("One More Try", the chorus of "Praying for Time", etc), but that hushed tone of his often suited the songs better.

How the hell did IWYS get no votes? The transition into the second part is all-time!

I'm actually glad that a point was made regarding GM meticulously programming up this record, because in my experience - his personal life aside - GM mostly tends to be talked about as a singer first, a songwriter second, and a musician third.

I mean, this is understandable - he had a great voice, and was rarely seen holding an instrument, but I often wonder how many people realise just how involved he was in the production/playing side of things.

the message song (well, one of them at least), breathy vocals, melancholy instrumentation.

it's not the best on this album but I enjoy it in that vein.

also what's up with the "Monkey" hate itt that song rules.

best moment on the album, however, is "C-C-C-C-C-C-COME ON"

weird that I didn't get this as a kid, cos I didn't listen to a ton of music then, but I loved all the George Michael and Wham singles. think I almost got it but got a lame Chicago album instead, so I didn't wind up hearing this til my 20s!

the original mix of "hard day" was the b-side to the 12-inch versions of "i want your sex". the pettibone remix got released in its own right (on 12-inch only afaict) at around the same time as "faith" in the states, which brought it back to the dance/club chart and onto the r&b chart
