Predict the next inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

I love the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, same way I love the Oscars. When something bad wins Best Picture or some great act gets overlooked, I don't get angry. I love it. At this point, it's an institution completely and totally dedicated to itself.

In recent developments, the Hall of Fame gets more timid and uncertain as it dips its toes into the '80s. The last year of inductees were Madonna, John Mellencamp, The Ventures, Leonard Cohen and The Dave Clark Five -- one of the weakest years in its history. The wide gulf between what was popular in the '80s and what was acclaimed is making things difficult for the R&RHoF. Some predict that the voters will remain in the safety of the '70s until it can get to the '90s.

So who gets in next year? I say it will be the following:

Tom Waits
Abba
The Stooges (finally)
Cheap Trick
The Beastie Boys

Andy Gibb
Kool & the Gang
Journey

It is mind boggling to me that Rush isn't in there, yet I have a feeling they will be ignored once more.

This proves that the Hall of Fame is useless.

Might not have been had they instead gone with Afrika Bambaataa, Chic and/or Donna Summer.

Though I see Donna Summer getting inducted on the 12th of never.

They have now become a bit too fixated that the Hall Of Fame is a "rock'n'roll" one and forgetting that there are already lots of non-rock'n'roll acts there, so this is going to be more and more boring.

Yes, a lot of recent non-rock sucks, but 80s synthpop and new romantics surely didn't. By then, they had actual songs with verse and chorus and all, and they were written by the band members themselves, not by some wealthy 40 year-old who knows what the kids want and doesn't care what he likes himself as the kids' taste makes him a lot wealthier than his own. It is wrong to blame those excellent early 80s acts for what is wrong with today's mainstream pop.

round-the-clock negotiations continue in the hope of brokering a reunion of the classic STYX lineup w/Tommy Shaw at next year's "Rock & Roll" Hall of Fame induction ceremony...

I don't really get Donna Summer. Abba or Chic should totally get in though, and I don't even like Abba.
