is shit and i hate hearing it at all, randy dicking around on his guitar, "this is a fender humbucker, called that because...," stories that start "i met ab bryant from the quintessential vancouver band chilliwack just as he was embarking on a new creative adventure with soon to be legends the headpins-- he was walking up higgins ave in winnipeg with ramon mcguire from trooper, sharing a bottle of rye and talking about their soon to be classic song, written together the same day, 'boys in the bright white sports car'... so here it is, 'boys.... in the bright white... sports car'," then he plays the riff from it himself, segue into song.

but i heard jian ghomeshi interviewing richie hawtin about living in berlin and richie hawtin went off on the cbc for driving him to berlin by playing classic rock on the cbc instead of richie hawtin and i wanted to get defensive but really couldn't. i hate randy bachman.

two weeks pass...

Ugh... Randy Bachman. For a while I was wondering who that guy was on the CBC who talks about himself all the time. I couldn't listen to him for long but eventually found out it was some guy called Randy. His self-importance is somewhat disturbing and the music he made is definitely on the low-brow side.

fifteen years pass...

Just heard an interview with Randy Bachman. I love this: he said they're playing "album cuts and deep sides" on his current tour. It's like he started the sentence with the terminology he and I know, album cuts, then suddenly remembered he should try to stay current. Unless they actually are playing entire sides of BTO albums nobody knows. (Later on he referred to mash-ups as jams.)

I'm with you, Randy.

i could not have imagined when it debuted that vinyl tap would run on the cbc almost as long as finkelman's 45s (it lasted longer in other forms, i read, since it was apparently syndicated on commercial radio until recently). he stood out for worse and more narrow taste than fm oldies rock radio programmers in conservative prairie towns.

After stumbling across it on a road-trip to Squamish a few years ago, a show of has become an in-joke amongst my friends just for the sheer levels of Alan Partridge. Randy'd just put out a George Harrison tribute album, and was playing and talking through a few tracks. Finally those sloppy Beatles were getting the punch-up they needed from a real pro. "I always thought Taxman was ok, but I never really cared for that bassline. What I thought would work so much better is if we gave it kind of a reggae feel..."

i wanted to comment that rich terfry's program, introduced during the same period of rectification, and also still running, was tolerable. i want to defend my beloved cbc. i haven't listened to it in ten years, though. i wonder what is happening on radio two.
