A very Pet Shop Boys Poll

"Yesterday, When I Was Mad". I particularly like the second remix on "Disco 2". I want to like "Can You Forgive Her?" because of the lyrics, but the tune plods along a bit too much, although maybe that's only in comparison to the other tracks.

I mean, "Can You Forgive Her?" is almost PSB meet Lou Reed...

I almost went with "Go West" because I know it'll get less votes than it deserves, but my vote goes to "Can You Forgive Her?".

I want "Young Offender" to play when I fall in love.

PSB is all I want to listen to lately.

I must admit "Very" is one of my least favorite PSB albums.

Fuck I love this album. Favorite is definitely Go West, which is basically the perfect distillation of what one thinks of when one thinks of stereotypically gay 80's culture.

Young Offender and I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind of Thing tied for a close second.

But ooh, you're being mean in doing this poll (which was done already?). The first seven tracks are unfuckwithable with several other gems set in the second half. But I'm going with "Dreaming of the Queen" which surpasses even "Being Boring" in the hurts so bad category.

I don't really know. It probably has to do with the early 90s sound. Also they started using a kind of backing vocals that I didn't like (like in "Was it worth it?"). It's definitely more the production than the songs themselves.

a perfect album imo, i just received the vinyl reissue in the mail and it still sounds amazing. i'm going to be replaying it more than a few times over the next several days. Dreaming of the Queen hits particularly hard.

this was probably a very important album for me in its presentation of life from the POV of a gay man (or men, rather.) as a rap and metal head whose exposure to gay culture thru music was at best not empathetic and at worst utterly vile, this was the LP that kind of woke me up in that respect. it's probably also the album that turned me on to pop music as an album genre as well as a series of great singles i'd just hear on the radio.

Yeah, I got the vinyl too and agree with how good it sounds. My second favourite PSB album behind Behaviour.

I don't agree! "Go West" is their biggest UK hit of the 1990s and it's more recognized in the States than the original Village People version. Ifa anything, rockcrit, mostly comprised of straight white guys, is so beholden to "maturity" as a theme that they hone in on Behaviour, Very and maaaayyybe Actually (in a distant third). I like them best when the Boys were sleazy a la "Two Divided by Zero" and "Opportunities.

i think i agree with you on that re: the rockcrits but i think general public-wise at least in the U.S. it's not as familiar...not saying it wasn't known at all, i just think it's slightly off their peak era and slightly out of time a bit in that regard.

Opportunities is probably the PSB song i think about the most though, i love it.

Happy 30th to this amazing album.

Relentless is getting a standalone reissue on vinyl and CD. I've never heard it. Should I? Never got much out of the Disco albums.

It's not like the Disco albums, they were all new songs. Get it !

The Man Who Has Everything is one of their best ever bangers. Man the *thrill* of getting 18 new PSB songs at once back in 1993, well 19 if you count 'Post Script'.

Nice to see ILX liked Young Offender better than some of the singles; it was always one of their great bits of buried treasure.

Huh I also thought Relentless was a remix album. And none of the songs are on Alternative or Format. Well, away I go to listen

Iirc, only "Forever In Love" is available on the Further Listening of Very.

I still haven't heard Relentless and the thought of hearing six new PSB songs from 1993 is very exciting!
