deej: its funny imagining in 2002 or something
that the biggest rap stars six years from now
would be lil wayne and kanye west
and what: yeah nobody coulda predicted
the dude who ghosted bad boy b-lister productions and the block is hot kid

reformatted, stupid gchat

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:28 (seventeen years ago)

anyway i voted kanye

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:29 (seventeen years ago)

this is kinda tough actually. especially because the "Lollipop" remix makes it easy to forget either's good qualities.

some dude, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:32 (seventeen years ago)

i pick WANYE

some dude, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:33 (seventeen years ago)

i was tempted to pick wayne, i think early wayne is pretty great but hes never really been my favorite hot boy (altho hot boys >> kanye & wayne) but hometown pride x watching kanye dominate like every demographic is still crazy to me, and the way people talked about his music was way less annoying than the way ppl talk about current wayne

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:46 (seventeen years ago)

wow this is really hard. idk...kanye's more annoying at his worst but more emotionally compelling at his best. but weezy is funnier, has more swagger and can also be emotionally compelling. kanye has more interesting beats (also more terrible beats) and better pop sensibilities. aagh i'll just pick weezy.

for pure voice alone i prefer t.i. to either

lex pretend, Thursday, 19 June 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

i voted wayne bcuz he's ultimately a better rapper, even though im not sure if wayne's 3 best albums/mixtapes w/e are better than kanye's 3 albums

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

i think in the future wayne's event rap is gonna be less irritating than kanye's event rap

and what, Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:07 (seventeen years ago)

KANYE ON LOLLIPOP > WAYNE ON LOLLIPOP

WHAT

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

CHALLOPIPOP

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

wayne's verses on the original>>wayne on the remix>>ye on the remix

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:10 (seventeen years ago)

ye on "put on">>all of those, though

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

those arrows are all rong!!! kanye kills the remix

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

"you just like fritos/ im tryin to lay" is the one hot line i think

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:13 (seventeen years ago)

tell a girl like doritos thats na-cho cheese

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:16 (seventeen years ago)

anyway back to the question at hand, i almost voted kanye because as a solo artist at least he is remarkably consistent, and i dont think i like my 5 fav wayne songs that much better than my 5 fav kanye songs, where as kanye's worst 5 don't even begin to touch the shitiness 5 worst songs wayne has recorded in the past 2 years

then again ye doesn't have it in him to record a "best rapper alive" or "go dj" or "upgrade u"

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:18 (seventeen years ago)

lol thats an elementary school joke xp

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:18 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i dunno, i was thinking about this. i could see the quality of Kanye's albums going up and down over the years and maybe becoming increasingly obnoxious as years go on but still occasionally coming out with something really dope, where i have no idea what the best case scenario for Wayne's future trajectory would even be, besides not dying or making total bullshit wannabe-Prince autotune records for years.

can't stand kanye
will always use "apologin'" as evidence
also how many of the catchiest graduation beats (champion, the glory, etc.) don't stand up after a few replays

Tape Store, Thursday, 19 June 2008 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

will always use "apologin'" as evidence

this isnt an invalid argument but wayne is a worse offender wrt intentionally mispronouncing words than ye is

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

well, Wayne didn't really do that until "Barry Bonds," now every other new verse has some "oops I mean" schtick.

some dude, Thursday, 19 June 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

this is so so so Kanye it's not funny

stephen, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

actually, career wise i should vote for wayne but graduation vs. carter iii i think graduation is a lot better

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

but then i would take lollipop/milli 12" over the singles off graduation

opinions4u

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

This is very white versus black.

Popture, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

o rly?

some dude, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

actually, career wise i should vote for wayne but graduation vs. carter iii i think graduation is a lot better

what about carter II v. late reg? relatively new directions for both, same year etc. etc. im taking carter II but i've grown to like late registration a lot more over the years

but then i would take lollipop/milli 12" over the singles off graduation

idk if this means anything but i like carter III singles more in the context of the album than as just radio songs, but i feel the opposite way abt graduation singles

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:19 (seventeen years ago)

i dont see why that would be, to me those two tracks are made for radio, huge distinctive songs that ive been hearing out of every car window for the past month

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

the Carter III singles still really feel like mediocre tracks transformed into event records by career momentum, I wouldn't rate any of them up there w/ my favorite recent Wayne singles (Stuntin Like My Daddy, Hustler Muzik, various collabs, etc.).

some dude, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:24 (seventeen years ago)

the Carter III singles still really feel like mediocre tracks transformed into event records by career momentum

i was going to pose this chicken v. egg question in here but i didnt know if anyone cared. did "lollipop" push wayne up to the heights that he is at now (at least the final push) or was his first single (be it "got money" or something we can conjure up that doesn't exist and never will) always going to be a huge hit that went straight to the top of the charts?

im sure the correct answer is a little bit of both but that's an unsatisfying conclusion, so i'd probably lean towards the side that says wayne was always going to hit the top regardless (even though i didnt believe it at the time)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:27 (seventeen years ago)

theyre both kinda bad :[
but weezy > kanye easy

sleep, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

although i do appreciate kanye for the kids walking around broadway with those slotted akira shades looking like idiots, A+ dude!

sleep, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

I think whatever his lead single was would've been big, but I have to say it was smart of him to go kinda left-field/pop with it even though I don't really like "Lollipop," he could've done well with a "Stuntin With My Daddy"-type banger but probably not as well. (xpost)

some dude, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

yeah 'some dude' otm

deej, Thursday, 19 June 2008 19:31 (seventeen years ago)

some dude, Thursday, 19 June 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

It's easy to think Wayne is the greatest thing ever because of the things he is good at, namely similes. And then you hear that song with Wayne and Jay Z together and realize that there are a million other elements to a good flow that Wayne lacks and Jay Z has mastered. Still, I do love Wayne's stream of nonsense. Lil Wayne is kind of like if all of Bob Dylan's songs were I shall be free # 10

filthy dylan, Thursday, 19 June 2008 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

is this "so not gonna happen" Wayne, or someone else?

Thomas, Thursday, 19 June 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)

amazingly, I think there are more Kanye songs I like (and that's still only six or seven)

I feel completely the inverse. "Lollipop" and "A Milli" are better single-qua-singles than anything on Graduation, but all those Graduation singles sound tremendous on the album.

The Reverend, Thursday, 19 June 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

Wayne doing serious better than Kanye

Tape Store, Thursday, 19 June 2008 21:32 (seventeen years ago)

think I'm w/the lex on this one

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 19 June 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

Weezy easy. Every Kanye song (though not his beats) feels like he's *trying* really hard to produce a big, likeable, vaguely humorous, hit. Several big singles ("stronger," "diamonds") are abysmal. Weezy, however, has pop star charisma without appearing to try so hard, and just sounds damned good.

paulhw, Thursday, 19 June 2008 22:41 (seventeen years ago)

I HAVE to know why people love Weezy so much. He's an arsehole and I fail to see his 'music talent' aside from being occasionally witty. I may be a bit bitter because I used to think he was fit back in the day when no one cared...
ALSO Kanye is really much more a reflection of today's hip hop in terms of style etc but harks back to older eras with his refs and samples and the humor in his music. He has been trying too hard of late but I love Flashing Lights.

kanye is probably not too popular in the nakhchivan autonomous republic considering he is engaged to an armenian and the azeri majority population of nakhchivan have been involved in vicious wars with the armenians during the last couple of centuries, but they would still probably admit the synth parts of his last album are better than anything nakhchivanian music has recently offered [citation needed]
