James McMahon, festivals editor at NME, said he believed most fans were simply expressing their dislike of Bizzle's music. "You have to separate racism – which is always totally unacceptable – from just disliking hip-hop, which is allowed," he said.
― Mark G, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:25 (seventeen years ago)
btw the thread title is crap.
Why would that be, Mark G?
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:26 (seventeen years ago)
As the article says, if you don't like the act, go watch something else.
― Mark G, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:34 (seventeen years ago)
Download festivals usually known for a relaxed atmosphere.
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:35 (seventeen years ago)
I was there when 50cent got canned at Reading fest, I was walking between stages, and thought at the time it was because the sound was really bad (kept cutting out for 1 second)..
Still, the atmosphere was terrible and up till then it had been a great day.
So, is this article purely about "Hmm, wonder if Jay-Z might get lots of stuff lobbed at him at Glastonbury? It looks likely, we'll be there to see"
― Mark G, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:39 (seventeen years ago)
I doubt that Jay-Z will get bottled people have maaaad respect for him but there is an interesting point to be made that the majority of kids who can sit outside in the fucking sun all day sweating out their American Apparel drinking ENGLISH beer and wearing 'novelty' sized sunglasses the size of my fucking face are usually white and they expect 'white' music like indie and they are fine with rap (The Streets, Dizee Rascal) but only acept it if a the artist is white or b the rap is contained to a smaller stage than the main stage. I also think its funny that a lot of people think rap & hip hop sounds the same without even trying to actually listen to it. Its like that episode in Home&Away where this woman BURNT A BOOK because it had 'adult themes' and she didn't want her daughter getting knocked up by it and all the other parents agreed even tho they hadn't read the book but the twisted firestarter had given them the gist... So basically, yeah.
― VeronaInTheClub, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:46 (seventeen years ago)
I also love that Bizzle called David Cameron a 'donut'
― VeronaInTheClub, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:53 (seventeen years ago)

oh totally
― banriquit, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:58 (seventeen years ago)
Its fine if you're white man, I respect your choice but the vast majority of the kids these days at music festivals are white thats all and the music that played at most festivals was played by white artists, people need to break from that kind of tradition but I don't want no token ethnic so that the festival thinks its being diverse you hear me Eavis?

As i said, Colour of someone skin is easy to pick on, would we be having this discussion had someone written "you welsh prick" on the banana?
Calum?
― DJ Mencap, Friday, 20 June 2008 13:43 (seventeen years ago)
The funny thing is that I'm sure there's lots of different races involved in the metal scene, whether in bands or in production.

If only the Stereophonics could be pelted with bananas with "you Welsh prick" written on them.
― Neil S, Friday, 20 June 2008 13:45 (seventeen years ago)
Who the fuck can write clearly on a banana, anyway?
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 20 June 2008 13:46 (seventeen years ago)
Like, seriously. Bananas don't seem the best of script surfaces/
Would we be having this discussion had someone written "you paddy cunt" on the banana and thrown it at Phil Lynott, if he was stil alive?
― DJ Mencap, Friday, 20 June 2008 13:50 (seventeen years ago)
Dom this thread title is deliberately selective and spun to buggery in a way that would make even the Daily Express envious.
― Matt DC, Friday, 20 June 2008 13:51 (seventeen years ago)
Would we be having the discussion if banana had been one of those marzipan fruits you often see in people's houses at Christmas?

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/172/424737170_c32291a3da.jpg?v=0 Also, writing 'You Welsh Prick' is funny but only if you know the person will think its funny too otherwise you're just a prick who stood in line scribbling on a fucking banana and then throwing away your five a day at some poor skinny band who doesn't realise they are shit and always have been because SOMEONE keeps buying their records.
― VeronaInTheClub, Friday, 20 June 2008 13:53 (seventeen years ago)
Fun fact: The Stereophonics have never recorded a song as shitty as the one Lethal B did with Gallows.

Does Lethal B think he's more black than dudes from Skindred and Killswitch Engage? Serious question.
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 20 June 2008 14:01 (seventeen years ago)
The fact that Skindred are still going in 2008 makes me http://www.soulstrut.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif tbh
Lethal B born Maxwell Ansah might think he's more black than black guys who do metal but thats only because as with the festivals generally there is an expected ethnicity and culture around metal and hip hop so...but really if he does think so then he's ignant imo. http://www.efestivals.co.uk/photos/download/2007/MyChemicalRomance-LS12-0706.jpg Can we talk about My Chemical Romance when they played Download?
― VeronaInTheClub, Friday, 20 June 2008 14:14 (seventeen years ago)
I think the fact that Lethal B is currently an indie act is much more of an affront to a Download crowd than the fact he used to be an urban one.
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 20 June 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)
Also, the fact that he's rubbish.

Did Scott 'not' Ian not die not for NOTHING!?!?!?
― Mark G, Friday, 20 June 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)
dom explain "lethal b is currently an indie act but used to be an urban one" - is this a ghost/clipse scenario where dudes name still rings bells in the hood but he's got more of a cornier indie fanbase every year or is this like some mf doom "i was on a major but now i rap about blogs" shit
― and what, Friday, 20 June 2008 14:55 (seventeen years ago)
More the latter... Bizzle's more up in the NME than HHC, basically. He records with indie bands (The Rakes, Gallows), he did the NME tour, he's supporting Kate Nash on tour... I can't think of the last time he did a straight-up urban/grime/hip-hop hook up (probably around the time his first album bombed, I assume).
The game's kinda different in the UK so a dude can appeal to an indie audience easier, touring much _easier_ in a country you can drive from corner to corner to in 23 hours.
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 20 June 2008 15:02 (seventeen years ago)
I mean, MF Doom, for all his faults, is still a hip-hop act that works to an indie audience. At this point, Lethal B has a lot more in common with, I dunno, Hadouken or Does It Offend You, Yeah? than anyone on Channel U.
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 20 June 2008 15:03 (seventeen years ago)
In the same way that circa "Skull and Bones" Cypress Hill had more in common with any random nu-metal act than anything that was going on in rap at that time.
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 20 June 2008 15:05 (seventeen years ago)
Ugh no one should have anything in common with Hadouken but yeah I get you on everything else EXCEPT the England part, its actually far harder to be accepted on the grime/urban scene unless you've got major credibility so the next step down/up (?) is indie scene which yeah its easier to get around England but that doesn't mean instant success or acceptance.
― VeronaInTheClub, Friday, 20 June 2008 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

Seriously, no one wants to talk about this.... http://www.kewlmag.com/img/content_images/gerard_way_400.jpg So pretty, so evil. Didn't My Chem get bottled but apparently not as bad as at Reading fest? What was the response like to them?
