What is it, with white people?
On Sunday, I'm in Leicester Square, about to meet some friends, when I notice a bunch of cyclists coming towards me, along the street. I pause, to watch them cycle by. I too, am a cyclist (sort of), and I start to berate myself in my head, wondering why I didn't know about this cycling expedition, that had I been more clued-up, perhaps I could have joined.

And indeed, I might have joined, had I been white. Had I been white, over the age of 50 and male, I would have been extremely likely to join. As the cyclists passed, I searched for a black face, an Indian face, even a Chinese face. Not one.

As I stood, watching, somewhat shocked, and slightly dazed, I couldn't help but think, but what is it with these white people? How can they do this? Before I know it, there is a huge crowd around me, of similar souls such as myself, looking on, aghast, some even taking photos on their mobile phones.

Why were we all staring?

Well let me tell you: these cyclists were all NAKED! That's right. They were not wearing any clothes. Well, the occasional woman had bikini bottoms on. And some people had painted flowers and the like on their bodies. But generally speaking, there were lots of men sitting on their bikes, without any clothes on! I mean, guys, isn't that just painful?

Of course there weren't any non-whites in this parade of lunacy. Only white people do this kind of thing. What is it that makes them do it? Is it supreme privilege? Is it boredom? Is it because they are crying out for an identity?

What on earth is it that makes white people behave in ways that no other ethnicity in what we call 'civilised society' would ever dream of doing? I am simply baffled.

Do we get one of these threads every day on ILM too, now?
