Pantomime

Traditionally performed at Christmas, with family audiences consisting mainly of children parents, and Fat Yanks. Pantomime is now a popular form of theatre, incorporating song, dance, buffoonery, slapstick, in-jokes, audience participation, and mild sexual innuendo. There are a number of traditional story-lines, and there is also a fairly well-defined set of performance conventions. Lists of these items follow, along with a special discussion of the "guest celebrity" tradition, which emerged in the year that most decent folk had had enough, apart from one giant fat cuntofaslug who called himself Breadcake aka Meat the Loaf aka Loaf aka Meat Oaf

I kind of wonder if Noodles had been OTM here: Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell: C/D?

I should probably pull the album out again though.

This is an Ozzy poll right?

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 29 June 2008 23:39 (seventeen years ago)

There oughta be a poll option for gams.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 30 June 2008 12:08 (seventeen years ago)

Title track obviously. The 'dying at the bottom of a pit' part may be the most ludicrously bombastic musical passage ever created.

chap, Monday, 30 June 2008 12:14 (seventeen years ago)

Yep, title track. If only Shadow Morton had access to "motorcycle guitar" back in the Shangri-Las days...

How did I miss this one? Anyway, the title track rules all.

first favorite album, still in my top 10 probably. pure joy.

Simon H., Monday, 24 March 2014 00:26 (twelve years ago)

i really liked this album when i was a kid. my parents didn't have many lps, but we had this one. i was drawn to the cover art and was pleasantly surprised at the bombastic, showtuney quality of the melodies as i think i expected it to be hard rock. i still don't really understand why it's so despised. i mean, the gender politics of paradise by the dashboard lights isn't great, but shit like "for cryin' out loud" seems almost unhateable, but plenty of people hate it.

très hip (Treeship), Monday, 24 March 2014 00:31 (twelve years ago)

this might have been my first favorite album too come to think of it. this or the river.

très hip (Treeship), Monday, 24 March 2014 00:32 (twelve years ago)

"Paradise" is the only song I'm ever tempted to skip over, but only really due to awful karaoke overexposure. I'm much bigger on the ballads and "Hot summer Nights" these days.

Simon H., Monday, 24 March 2014 00:45 (twelve years ago)

Todd Rundgren's production on this is absolutely top notch.

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Monday, 24 March 2014 17:33 (twelve years ago)

seven years pass...

does "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" win the award for 'longest meandering path to the chorus in a pop song ever'? i mean, that's what I love about it, but it's funny how many twists and turns it takes to ever get to the chorus each time. definitely a 'room with many doors' song.
