at a wedding this weekend i heard a spanish-sounding version of the instantly recognizable horn line from these songs. a little googling research suggests it's an old calypso melody. anybody have an idea from what? any PRE-sabres instances of this melody?
tangentially, "bucovina" has led me to all kinds of freaking awesome balkan club music.. i finally have twigged that "fizheuer zieheuer" was just villalobos' own dub tools popularization (for westerners) of the type of stuff that crops up all over the place on "bucovina club" album (2003) - any other suggestions along these lines hugely welcome

Get the Gypsy Beats & Balkan Bangers comp that Basement Jaxx put out in 2006 - it's fantastic. Haven't heard the sequel but it's probably good too.
