im gonna go mylo out of principle.

banriquit, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, voted Mylo as well. The days when every single fucking bar in the UK was forced by law to play "Drop the Pressure" once an hour are seemingly over, thankfully.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

I'm assuming you deliberately omitted Luna's version?

Pillbox, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

Umphrey's McGee

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

Luna's version isn't that bad.

Michael White, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:56 (seventeen years ago)

FWIW, I like the Luna version too, sometimes more than the original

Pillbox, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

Left Luna out by accident. Forgot who they were for a minute, tbh

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

luna's version was actually by marissa marchant.

banriquit, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

that Michael White, always rushing to Luna's defense

some dude, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

yeah luna's version is pretty effing sweet. i don't think i've ever heard any of these except maybe the sheryl crow? BUT NOW I CAN HEAR THEM IN MY BRAIN. thanks a lot.

tylerw, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think I can vote in this b/c the only one of these I've heard is Sheryl Crow's and, as dire as that is, I'm sure most of these are much, much worse.

Pillbox, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

I think the idea is to imagine how bad these songs may actually be.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

I think the idea is to imagine how bad these songs may actually be.

In that case it's a toss up betweem Umphrey's McGee and Most Precious Blood. I know nothing of either band, probably for the best. Doesn't sound too promising, to put it lightly.

Pillbox, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

What I know of most Precious Blood would give them a fair shout but they're up agaist Texas and Mylo so no counting chickens here

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 18:50 (seventeen years ago)

The Avenged Sevenfold version is pretty terrible. So I voted that.

Marty Innerlogic, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

the idea of a black eyed peas version frightens me

get bent, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 03:11 (seventeen years ago)

slowdive also covered "sweet child o' mine" -- but it was pretty good.

Eisbaer, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 03:43 (seventeen years ago)

There was a bootleg of Will Oldham & David Berman singing this song floating around somewhere. It wasn't so great.

badg, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 06:34 (seventeen years ago)

DJ Dougal

This is surely AWESOME. I hope it plays the riff on a particularly Toytown synth with offbeat stabs and then someone declares "here we go!" and there's a snare rush up to a giant BONG noise followed by abandoning any resemblance to the original for 40 seconds of twinkling arpeggios, then repeat. I also kind of hope there aren't any vocals.

I'm betting the Texas one is pretty horrible.

a passing spacecadet, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 07:57 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't heard any cover version of this.

yay!

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 08:43 (seventeen years ago)

The Mylo one made the riff into a kind of oddly fey plinky thing, can't remember what the vocals were like. It was pretty terrible anyway.

The Luna one is awful as well, so fucking WET. I bet the Texas one is as well.

I'm going with the Manics though for the inevitable ponderous earnestness of James Dean Bradfield's vocal performance in the chorus.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 09:00 (seventeen years ago)

Oh hang on I didn't see the Black Eyed Peas in there, that's bound to be shit.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 09:00 (seventeen years ago)

The brilliant Akasha/Neneh Cherry cover (done in 3-time) is BETTER than the original and I am glad it isn't in this poll.

Just got offed, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 11:52 (seventeen years ago)

i can't imagine any version is worse than the Black Eyed Peas, but i haven't heard it, in fact i don't think i've heard any except the Sheryl Crow version. So i won't vote.

Boy, i bet that Linkin Park version is some kind of awful too.

myndbloom, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 13:58 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Her hair is soft and warm and comforting, just like the little nook that Axl would crawl into when he was afraid of those nasty Indiana thunderstorms.

Linkin Park 1

is this the gnr-sampling mike shinoda joint with juelz + celph titled or a str8 linkin park cover?

and what, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 20:34 (seventeen years ago)

Straight cover:

Really like that "S.C.O.M." track though, it was nice that that post-Dipset "lets rap over some 80s rock track" shit era actually produced something not shit.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

the version from step brothers is pretty horrendous. (the movie's very funny.)

get bent, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

yeah plus JUELZ + CELPH TITLED

and what, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)
