J0hn D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 20:42 (seventeen years ago)

this thread is a tough sell

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

i've only heard one song that i know of, something my gf put on a mix for me.

omar little, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think I fit into his indie world
Guided By Voices and Velocity Girl
Eric's Trip and Rocketship, Rancid, Rocket from The Crypt
Bikini Kill and Built to Spill, it's plain to see that I don't fit

He says my songs are too deep and gloomy
He wishes that I could be more like Jenny Toomey
Just give me my Joni, my Nick, Neil, and Bob
You can keep your Tsunami, your Slant 6 and Smog

What's the story? he says Butterglory
I say what's the news? he says the Silver Jews
His Heavenly hang-up is getting me down
And it's making me wonder why he's hanging around

Cause I don't fit into his indie scene
Huggy Bear and Helium and Half-Japanese
Mountain Goats and Momus and Matmos
Sebadoh and Sentridoh and Superchunk and I don't know
Doug and Lou and Calvin too and Kim and Kim and Kim and Kim

Yeah I’m stuck in the past and he's stuck on his four-track
But I can't get through to his one-track mind
I push play and record and a major chord
Maybe I’ll win his heart this time
Maybe I’ll win his heart this time

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:40 (seventeen years ago)

wow! i'm actually into that. except, is she dissin on kim d?

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

i really like "got no shadow", it's a great little overproduced pop record.

akm, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

that's the 1 i was just listening to! it's not terrible!

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

There's a whole line of ILXors there!

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

Can't really be a coinkydink can it?

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

there's something in the air

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

Those lyrics are atrocious, come on guys

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

I still love the Martian Saints EP. Her cover of "I Figured You Out" is wonderful.

Also, I remember reading that she rewrote "His Indie World" as "His N.D. World" and changed the indie band to alt-country bands. I've never heard it or run across lyrics, so I can't confirm it as true, but it's a nice idea.

deusner, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)

it's a funny song considering the dudes i know who want to meet indie girls and bemoan their inability to do so.

omar little, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

i don't mind some jingle jangle morning but she's a mediocre songwriter at best

electricsound, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

right

Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

her cover songs, on her oldest tapes, before the KRS single, are the only things worth searching out

jergins, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

i liked the b-side of the some jingle jangle morning single, western union desperate. not the cast no shadow version so much.

mookieproof, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

the question is, is she repeating kim's name in that song or are there four different kims?

Surmounter, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 00:15 (seventeen years ago)

umm you guys'll note that the ilxors line is an embellishment by the transcriber

J0hn D., Wednesday, 25 June 2008 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

the lyric is actually: Doug and Lou and Calvin too and Kim and Matt and Kim and Kim Thayil

jeff, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

and I will never forgive her for it

J0hn D., Wednesday, 25 June 2008 00:19 (seventeen years ago)

Surmounter, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 00:34 (seventeen years ago)

Surmounter, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 00:36 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think I fit into his rockism world...

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

I don't fit into his trap-hop world

J0hn D., Wednesday, 25 June 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)

etc

J0hn D., Wednesday, 25 June 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)

Always had a soft spot for Mary Lou. Her cover of 'Fearless' (Pink Floyd) on her last album 'Baby Blue' is quite gorgeous.

SeekAltRoute, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

I was about to namecheck the "Fearless" cover. Very great.

Also, I credit Mary Lou Lord for getting me into The Bevis Frond.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 04:08 (seventeen years ago)
