MAGMA POLL

Studio albums only, it just gets too confusing with the 20 or so live releases too. Polling now because I can't keep waiting for Emehnteht-Re to finally come out, it could take years.

Simples consists of several earlier Magma prog-rock epics edited down to a length that the band had originally hoped would garner them radio airtime during the 1970s.

What were they thinking?!

I've got 1001° Centigrades; The Unnamables; Ẁurdah Ïtah; Köhntarkösz but, hand on heart, Köhntarkösz is the only one I really like. Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh is the only other one I've heard, it's probably better than Köhntarkösz, so gets my vote.

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:18 (seventeen years ago)

1001° Centigrades is all I've ever really been into. Somehow after hearing I didn't need more. Sated, I guess.

Kublakhan61, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:20 (seventeen years ago)

They didn't sound like 1001° Centigrades after 1001° Centigrades. I don't really like that album.

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:21 (seventeen years ago)

How is The Unnameables, is it supposed to be less, um, challenging? So I've read anyway.

Matt #2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:22 (seventeen years ago)

It's OK, there's, errrrmmm, "songs" on it, and funky and even folky bits. I haven't heard it in a while but I don't know how much it has to do with Magma really, it's more of a let's kick our shoes off and mess around thing.

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:25 (seventeen years ago)

So, if I were to go back in on the strength of 1001° Centigrades, willing to hear their next phase of sound - where should I go?

Kublakhan61, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:25 (seventeen years ago)

We need the ILM Magma experts to show up

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:27 (seventeen years ago)

Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh should be your next move - just jump in there, there's no easy way.

Matt #2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:28 (seventeen years ago)

Köhntarkösz is a bit of an easier listen

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:28 (seventeen years ago)

Here's another picture while you're thinking about it :

But Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh does have more laffs

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:30 (seventeen years ago)

This seems to be a Christian Vander tattoo. Is this Steve Davis?

Stella & Klaus looking esp. cool in that last pic (xxp)

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:31 (seventeen years ago)

Üdü Wüdü

BIG BOTTOM

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:31 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah I dunno if Köhntarkösz is an easy listen exactly, it's pretty repetitive. MDK is more like Jesus Christ Superstar, and has a lot of Vander's monkey impressions on it.

xpost

Matt #2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:32 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for Udu Wudu - even though it's patchy you get De Futura and the greatest bass riff ever.

Matt #2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

xp: love Köhntarkösz though. and the first one. i know it's not the alien prog epic magma, but i still like it.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

MDK gets my vote

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

Merci sucks.

Matt #2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:35 (seventeen years ago)

has a lot of Vander's monkey impressions on it.

Some of Iannis Xenakis' more, uhhhh, challenging vocal pieces sound as if he might have been listening to Magma! Unlikely, even if they were based in the same city.

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:36 (seventeen years ago)

voted Wurdah Itah, but no Hhai, no credibility

Dominique, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:55 (seventeen years ago)

Well if you include one live album you have to include 'em all and it gets too confusing, what with the numerous versions of MDK etc.

Matt #2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 14:06 (seventeen years ago)

Of course, "Hhai" is my favourite Magma album tho

Tom D., Thursday, 26 June 2008 14:08 (seventeen years ago)

böö

Dominique, Thursday, 26 June 2008 14:08 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for K.A., actually, because it's a Magma album that for once has good sound/mixing, and I think for most of the other stuff I like the live recordings more than the original studio version (in that sense, "Wurdah Itah" is the only other potential contender). The live "Kohntarkosz" is waaaay better than the studio version.

If "Live/Hhai" was offered, I would have surely picked that one. "Attahk" is also a temptation just because I think it's a great album, even if not 'epic'.

Joe, Thursday, 26 June 2008 14:35 (seventeen years ago)

I went with Attahk

matinee, Thursday, 26 June 2008 15:19 (seventeen years ago)

Attahk 4 the win.

Patrick South, Thursday, 26 June 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

I went for Attahk too, that's a pretty great introduction to the band. Live / Hhai would have taken it otherwise, disc 2 of that one comes together so well it's more than just a live album

Milton Parker, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

Üdü Wüdü

Attahk after the fahkt

jaxon, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 23:57 (seventeen years ago)

mdk feels a bit grateful dead hippyish and the live album that i have isn't hard enough (reminds me of that rovo double disc live thing too). udu wudu has de futura, but that's it.

jaxon, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 23:58 (seventeen years ago)

i feel like somehow mdk just voted for itself

matinee, Thursday, 3 July 2008 01:30 (seventeen years ago)

MDK = grateful dead hippyish ?!!

Joe, Thursday, 3 July 2008 01:36 (seventeen years ago)

I think people voted for Udu Wudu because they like the title

Joe, Thursday, 3 July 2008 01:36 (seventeen years ago)

mdk feels a bit grateful dead hippyish

alright, you've not heard one of these things.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Thursday, 3 July 2008 02:09 (seventeen years ago)

i'm relistening to mdk and i take back the dead thing. it's been years since i heard it and there's this one guitar tone that i remembered sounding a bit weird and noodly, but today it sounds very concise and on point. i still like attahk better

jaxon, Thursday, 3 July 2008 03:04 (seventeen years ago)

five months pass...

Listening to Hhaï/Live right now. I have decided 2009 is my year to fully investigate Magma, and have...obtained everything from the debut through Üdü Wüdü, except for the Univeria Zekt disc.
