What are some good examples?

Also, is this awesome or lame?

What are some good examples?

Like 50% of rap records ever.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 27 June 2008 04:21 (seventeen years ago)

also:

FRESH for '88 you SUCKAS...

is classic beyond classic, obv.

[Boogie Down Productions - "My Philosophy"]

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 27 June 2008 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

And the worst would be Busta Rhymes yelling THERE'S ONLY FIVE YEARS LEFT. And counting it down on every album until he hit 2000.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 27 June 2008 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

Nine-tre, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh...
I don't wanna say nine-tre
cause my man Extra P said don't say the years
So, it's for eternity, know what I'm sayin?

PappaWheelie V, Friday, 27 June 2008 04:26 (seventeen years ago)

If it's in 50% of rap records ever, then it shouldn't be hard to list a single example.

HE GETS BETTER 'CAUSE HE KNOWS HE HAS TA
IN EIGHTY-FOUR HE'LL BE A LITTLE FASTER
AND ONLY PRACTICE MAKES A REAL JAM MASTER

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 27 June 2008 05:21 (seventeen years ago)

This is weird: Ice Cube's "Don't Trust 'Em" (from '93's The Predator) contains this rhyme:

In 'ninety-ÞóÇ®¼, shit ain't quite the same/Bitches got a brand-new game, yo".

That indecipherable/unreadable bit is, in fact, the word "One" played backwards. In other words, the track was recorded wayyy back "In '91..." and Cube apparently wanted to conceal its age, so he simply reversed it to disguise it. But if that was indeed the case, why couldn't he have just taken it back into the studio and punched-in the more timely "3"? Wouldn't that have been much easier? Like I said: weird.

And drop some smooth lyrics
Cause it’s '‘88
Time to set it straight

banriquit, Friday, 27 June 2008 10:49 (seventeen years ago)

I don't bug out or chill or be acting ill
No tricks in '86, it's time to build
Eric B easy on the cut, no mistakes allowed
Cuz to me, MC means move the crowd

I think I like it better when rappers reference the year after what year it is, like Jay-Z used to always do ("Friend Or Foe '98" in '97, "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" in '02).

well you never know when label shenanigans are going to hold it up right? and if they don't, it's got this patina of exclusivity, like a 2009 model car

Tracer Hand, Friday, 27 June 2008 15:01 (seventeen years ago)

Special Ed-Ready 2 Attack

Well, it's 1990, '89 has ended
Now it's time for all those who pretended
To settle and cease with the noise
You and your boys - it's time to put away the toys
Christmas is over and this is my resolution
To stop the confusion
Let the fresh get fresh and the stale get staler
And throw em in a pale of
Trash with the other trash and smash down the lid
For all the weak shit they did

'Don't Believe the Hype' was said in '88 by the great Chuck D,
Now they're tryin to fuck me
".. with No Vaseline
Just a match and a little bit of gasoline.."
It's a great day for genocide (What's that?)
That's the day all the niggaz died
They killed JFK in '63
So what the fuck you think they'll do to me?

Before i go I'd like to say a few things. this album was completed on january 15th 1991. By now the war has probably started and a whole bunch of people have probably died out there in the desert over some bullshit. there's a war goin on right now in my neighborhood but i can't really determine which one is worse..I think the one that we are all fightin is fucked up and that's the war inside out brains you know. but uh i feel bad about all the brothers and sisters gettin pulled right out of their neighborhoods all the citys and small towns in america that go over there and fight for that bullshit. that most of them don't really have anything to do with. So i gotta send peace out to em. Also peace out to all my homies in jail brothers that are dead locked up right here on earth..talkin about the brothers in solidad, san quetin, all the way up to pelicans bay, tracy, chino, and all my homeboys out there in the east coast lockdown facilities. Im talkin about clinton, rikers, jolead, you know every prison in the whold fuckin world man, that's like you know all bullshit you know. they say slavery has been abolished except for the convicted felon yall need to think about that. that lets you know what the fuckin constitution is really about you know. a lot of my homeboys have been locked down
My whole entire career and that's some bullshit. So for them from the Rhyme Syndicate and Ice-T I'd like to send this special shout out...Fuck the police, Fuck the FBI, Fuck the DEA, Fuck the CIA, Fuck Tipper Gore, Bush and his cripple bitch this is Ice-T im out of here, told ya you shoulda killed me last year..

undeadsinatra, Saturday, 28 June 2008 06:56 (seventeen years ago)

The year is cited as 3030 a few times on the Deltron 3030 album. Which wouldn't be a problem except that they treat it as if it's still a new millennium; we stopped doing that for this one in about 2001.
