bird of prey is the least annoying one.

the next grozart, Friday, 27 June 2008 09:54 (seventeen years ago)

funk soul brova!

zeus, Friday, 27 June 2008 10:01 (seventeen years ago)

x-post Really? Depends a lot on how you feel about Jim Morrison I suppose.

Everybody Needs a 303 for me. "I prefer the early material" is not something you should say about Fatboy Slim (or indeed anyone), is it, but that's just the way I feel.

Neil S, Friday, 27 June 2008 10:01 (seventeen years ago)

it's basically all junk after 1998

^^ in b4 'posts very much in character'

banriquit, Friday, 27 June 2008 10:03 (seventeen years ago)

looking fwd to your Scooter singles poll

blueski, Friday, 27 June 2008 12:28 (seventeen years ago)

I still think "Everybody Needs a 303" is one of the greatest tracks ever recorded.

HI DERE, Friday, 27 June 2008 12:29 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for RHRN, though I might not have if the video wasn't so excellent.

chap, Friday, 27 June 2008 12:37 (seventeen years ago)

Looking at that, it's not just that fashion left him behind. The first nine are all great. And those after are not. I vote Santa Cruz.

Jamie T Smith, Friday, 27 June 2008 12:47 (seventeen years ago)

Dan OTM

Michael B, Friday, 27 June 2008 13:27 (seventeen years ago)

"Slash Dot Slash" gets way too little love.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 27 June 2008 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

It is a difficult choice between 303 and santa cruz. Better living though chemistry was an awesome album. The later stuff pretty much sucked though.

Ed, Friday, 27 June 2008 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

i like "demons", but mainly for macy gray

abanana, Friday, 27 June 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

should've stuck to remixes norm

El Tomboto, Friday, 27 June 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

he didn't do that many good remixes really

blueski, Friday, 27 June 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

yeah gotta say much slimmer pickings than the chem bros list.

balls, Friday, 27 June 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

santa cruz. weirdly, around the same time i wrote a song that sounded very like it -- only without having heard it.

luckily, my song was only ever heard by about 20 people, thus saving me the potential embarrassment of a lengthy court case etc. whew, eh?

grimly fiendish, Friday, 27 June 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

DO NOT VOTE FOR MACY GRAY

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 28 June 2008 01:17 (seventeen years ago)

voted for "Going out of My Head"

The Reverend, Saturday, 28 June 2008 01:27 (seventeen years ago)

Santa Cruz. His only mistake was in not retiring the name after two albums, like every other band or alias he ever touched. The second album is in no way an embarrassing drop-off from the first, just a broader, more populist approach; after that he should have walked away and done something else.

energy flash gordon, Saturday, 28 June 2008 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

Other than The Space Cowboy.

energy flash gordon, Saturday, 28 June 2008 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

The "Brimful of Asha" remix is the track that will put him in fucking heaven. Absent that, "The Rockafeller Skank."

Kevin John Bozelka, Saturday, 28 June 2008 02:31 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

How the fuck did I miss this poll????

I can't believe how much hate his last two albums get. I blast my copy of Palookaville with pride and vote for "Wonderful Night."

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 03:34 (seventeen years ago)

Good result

Gangster Trippin deserved a vote

Right winner

fair but so uncool beliefs here (Eric H.), Saturday, 3 June 2023 16:36 (two years ago)

I would've gone with "Weapon of Choice" just because I used to love the video.

That’s impressive

Cemetry Gaetz (DJP), Saturday, 15 June 2024 12:13 (one year ago)

He hasn't really done many singles in 18 years

Those Why Try Harder singles are great though. The moment in That Old Pair of Jeans when it explodes into panorama...

He hasn't really done many singles in 18 years

But nearly all of them are pretty good and fun!

bae (sic), Saturday, 15 June 2024 17:03 (one year ago)

my son loves Fatboy Slim and this repeats the same phrase a lot of time so he and I will enjoy it. we are not very particular about our Fatboy Slim

maybe I'm imagining things but I kinda wonder if You've Come a Long Way, Baby was a big influence on a certain pocket of online culture. its got that YouTube poop/shitposting vibe to it before that was really a thing. in more serious spaces this became like what dubstep is. idk I'm fascinated by how utterly braindead it is

frogbs, Monday, 10 February 2025 20:12 (one year ago)

I have actually seen the 'This is Bra-arB-Bra-arB-Br' edit during the phone convo between RHRH and Rockafeller Skank called YTP-esque!

you can see me from westbury white horse, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:16 (one year ago)

it's not braindead!

budo jeru, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:19 (one year ago)

otm

you can see me from westbury white horse, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:27 (one year ago)

yeah that bit is so memorable and a ton of people had this CD I do wonder if a bunch of teens who would later make YTPs were subconsciously influenced by it. I can actually clearly remember the first time hearing that and thinking "why would you loop that? is he making fun of himself?" and then later thinking "ahh that's kinda catchy"

it's not braindead!

well the last two tracks have a "but seriously..." vibe to them. everything before that does sound kind of demented to my ears with the exception of "Right Here, Right Now" which still goes astonishingly hard

frogbs, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:31 (one year ago)

If they had a ...But Seriously vibe to them then that'd be the most demented thing of all

(Those last two tracks are as relatively close to tracky as it gets agreed, which seems weird to think about in the context of a tune that goes 'if this don't make your booty move your booty must be dead'. might just be the noise-drone ending which suggests his love of the Chem Bros ran a bit deeper than advertised, or Love Island's main riff being identical to the end of Song for Lindy albeit without the unexpected bittersweetness)

you can see me from westbury white horse, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:37 (one year ago)

stuff the ytp-making teens i knew were listening to a lot of, from memory: mf doom, kanye, daft punk, the avalanches, aphex twin, boards of canada, pretty much any video game soundtrack

not fatboy slim

budo jeru, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:45 (one year ago)

you think that "praise you" sounds demented?

budo jeru, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:46 (one year ago)

xps Ok I didn't mention it (well you can imagine what "This guy kicks ass" was changed to) but the radio skit - independently of me seeing its YTP qualities alluded to - does feature on an old friend's YTP.

Fatboy is definitely in the sphere I think, obv knowing this pooper himself. It might just be a certain area of the community tho idk. Like I doubt Chris Morris references are as widespread as they are in the part I've ended up being exposed to in later years.

you can see me from westbury white horse, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:52 (one year ago)

i don't think i understand what you guys are talking about but i heard this record when i was 8, which i think is probably the right age to hear it for the first time lol

budo jeru, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:53 (one year ago)

well, yeah. stretching that vocal sample out for like 30 seconds in the beginning, the loud crashing drums, the repetitiveness...granted its less demented than the previous 7 tracks

stuff the ytp-making teens i knew were listening to a lot of, from memory: mf doom, kanye, daft punk, the avalanches, aphex twin, boards of canada, pretty much any video game soundtrack

this album pre-dates a lot of this stuff, or at least when they became popular amongst the online generation. maybe I was too young but I thought Homework was big amongst DJs and clubbers, Discovery was the one people who spent a lot of time posting on message boards liked

one thing I do remember in online discussion was a lot of talk about Palookaville, iirc basically everyone hated it, but I did get the impression that they all knew this album at least

frogbs, Monday, 10 February 2025 21:54 (one year ago)

I got all the Fatboy albums except YCALWB* for either my 8th or 9th birthdays

*because my mum already had it

you can see me from westbury white horse, Monday, 10 February 2025 22:00 (one year ago)

four months pass...

my Youtube account is autoplaying Fatboy Slim videos now...I remember catching Praise You exactly one time as a kid, I remember the concept and I remember exactly how the main dancer looked but I did not recall how low quality the video looked. I guess that's how everything on TV looked back then. The Weapon of Choice video on the other hand I remmeber being stunned by how good it looked
