is anyone feeling this? i dont usually go for the iron and wine/americana type stuff usually but 'skinny love' caught my ear. swinging but really gentle too. the rest of the albums great too.

YEAH I really liked Skinny Love, it was pretty soulful but it gets sort of irritating near the end. Some of his other songs (which I forget) are a bit hit and miss, he's got a good ear for sort of old bluesey Southern sound but eh...He's really on point with SL tho. Definitely

There's some talk of this album in the Rolling Indie thread, which I cannot find on search for some reason.

Anyway, yeah, agreed - when it's pretty, it's goosebumps-y. "Flume" is incredible, and I think his lyrics can be just weird enough to make that wintery-cabin-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-stuff from all the album's press sound convincing (and haunting). ("I wear my garment so it shows... gluey feathers on the flume").

I saw him do a big in-store a month or so ago (at Rough Trade off Brick Lane) which was amazing. His band is subtle, but they're all deceptively good musicians. They played a couple of songs plugged in, and then the main dude said something like "if this isn't too precious or whatever, I think it'd be better if we kind of did this sitting on the floor and acoustic and all that," and they did the rest of the songs with just a strummed acoustic and 3-part harmonies. It was really nice.

just watched the letterman performance, i love that it's a dude with his acoustic guitar + three singing drummers (kinda lame that they all play the same part though).

the forthcoming Bloodbank e.p. is fantastic, better than the album esp. 'the woods'. its like an old folk song with just his voice put thru autotune.

this album is good i think

Would I be considered a degenerate for not really enjoying this as much as everyone else?

Though Bloodbank is really good.

No, that makes you a better person.

I don't understand what's appealing about facile, one-chord-and-a-half aimless guitar jangling with a quasi castrato singing on top. Awful.

i'm amazed by how much emotion can be conveyed in the song woods where he does nothing but sing the same line over and over and just sing with hardly and other elements. i like it.
