this is being d/l now. any thoughts yet?

Bee OK, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

haha Beck & Danger Mouse totally deserve each other

The Reverend, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

on paper this sounds like the ilm antichrist

ciderpress, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

I liked him more when he couldn't play guitar properly and took the occasional diversion into total noise territory.

the last thing I remember liking of his was whatever song he had in Inland Empire. Other than that, I gave up on him around the time of Sea Change and haven't paid attention since.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 18:35 (seventeen years ago)

well, it it called "modern guilt"

i've been wanting for a long time to call a new beck album the first great one since midnite vultures but i don't think this is it yet

songwriting is a bit lazy on most of these songs though i do like the first track and the title track so far

ciderpress, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

if this is anything like sea change I might like it; i hated midnight vultures, and the albums since sea change though. I'll give it a listen but keep my expectations low

Does it have that song he did on SNL recenty, where his band backed him by playing spoons on a dinner table? That song was gr8.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 1 July 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

bit of a dated zeitgeisty title, that. then again, im sure we have lots of new things to be guilty about that beck could zero in on. or cryptically talk nothing about.

titchyschneiderMk2, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

listend to 2 songs from this, delete them afterwards, dont care about the rest.

I think that was from his last album.

beck is the new dylan because he wears bolo ties now. what a treasure he is for the world of music.

res, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

this album is so much better than the last two. Beck might have something left afterall.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 02:05 (seventeen years ago)

something

Zeno, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

I think that was from his last album.

No, it wasn't on The Information.

this album is so much better than the last two. Beck might have something left afterall.

The Information was good! Not revolutionary, but half of it was very retro-ish, California-ish catchy pop, e.g., Think I'm In Love, Strange Apparition, Nausea, Cellphone's Dead.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 2 July 2008 03:30 (seventeen years ago)

I think this album, The Information, and Guero form a trilogy of albums I can't bring myself to care about. Like Lord of the Rings.

scientology?

Not very likely with Dangermouse producing. But listening to other work Dangermouse has produced (Gorillaz in particular) makes me think he is the right man for Beck's more postmodern and "funky" self.

Then hopefully he will also soon team up with Nigel Godrich for a "singer/songwriter" album again.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 07:43 (seventeen years ago)

you forgot the scare quotes around "postmodern"

The Reverend, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 08:08 (seventeen years ago)

"Say it Right," Nelly Furtado.

mox twelve, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 15:55 (seventeen years ago)

"Say It SHITE" morelike

Scientology - don't, don't do it.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

This album is actually a lot more subdued than I was expecting it to be. No, it's not Sea Change-level mellow - still has beats - but Beck's delivery is super laid back. Based on one listen.

pgwp, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

Oh joy

Niles Caulder, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 16:17 (seventeen years ago)

The best excuse for not listening to an album in history: "He's a thetan."

Seriously, I've got to start using that one!

res, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

"Sea Change" also has drums.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:52 (seventeen years ago)

drums /= beats geir

why do I bother

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:58 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, "beats" as in there is an electronica/hip hop element underlying the songs, courtesy Dangermouse.

pgwp, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 21:18 (seventeen years ago)

So this is basically Gnarls Beckley then?

(If so, that's fine.. just wonderin')

Mackro Mackro, Monday, 7 July 2008 01:06 (seventeen years ago)

i actually like this album and wasn't expecting it to. it's certainly better than the last two albums which I could barely listen to once.

akm, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 06:29 (seventeen years ago)

"Replica" is like the same beat as Gnarls Barkley's "Open Book"

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 06:35 (seventeen years ago)

I have the "Modern Guilt" about wasting $15 on a Beck CD without downloading it first and realizing it's not very good.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 06:36 (seventeen years ago)

I really like the first three songs

wilter, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 06:36 (seventeen years ago)

well not really really like, but they're nice.

wilter, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 06:37 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

I'm liking this. "Chemtrails" is lovely.

Drew Daniel, Friday, 15 August 2008 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

seven months pass...

replica is real nice (i like the sound of this album so far)

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 March 2009 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

what does thsi album sound like? breezy "modern rock"?

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 08:28 (sixteen years ago)

I thought I was a bit underwhelmed by this last year, but looking back at iTunes stats I see I've played it a lot.

It's so short I tend to listen to it as a complete album and have never bothered to investigate what most of the tracks are called.

Bob Six, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 08:35 (sixteen years ago)

dude has his two houses for sale... for a couple of million each.WTF.
