Let me turn up my hearing aid, hold on.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2008 15:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Typical me, I was focusing in on the piano more for a while there. Riff *sounds* very AC/DC but I can't be sure. Anyone else know?

forksclovetofu, Friday, 4 July 2008 15:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Nice! Hats off to Will (and that obv explains the piano).

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2008 15:45 (sixteen years ago) link

how many songs sound like this!??

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 15:57 (sixteen years ago) link

somebody should do something with "find your way back"

i have a coworker that's been inordinately fascinated with the Mickey Thomas-led J. Starship of the late 70's lately. it was funny, then annoying. And now I walk around humming "Count On Me"

will, Friday, 4 July 2008 15:57 (sixteen years ago) link

how many songs sound like this!??

Haha, ask xhuxk -- he's been flying the Aldo Nova flag ever since it originally came out.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

this is now the thread where i chronicle listening to a new pandora station based on "jane"

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link

sweet - "love is like oxygen"

i know this!! downloaded it back in the day when i was looking for ELO & it was mislabeled. sweet are dope imo "fox on the run" is jammin d-_-b for all time

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:40 (sixteen years ago) link

queen - "now i'm here"

never heard this before.... it's quiet right now but i know theyre gonna start rockin in a minute :D ohh shit theres a drum hit YEAH ha dynamics on this kinda glam/classic rock ish it like hardcore rave joints sometimes in how they do breakdowns and shit. weird phasing on the vocals - is this freddie mercury? it sounds like ric ocasek or something - oh wait hes harmonizing now it sounds like queen. this is some good times rock music! i really need to step my game up on listening to queen cuz i cant think of a song by these dudes i dont fuck with

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:43 (sixteen years ago) link

kansas - "play the game tonight"

i love carry on my wayward son but i never heard this joint before. starts out sounding like early 90s bryan adams ballad. wait now its on the hook & its rockin just a lil bit. fat drums on this joint, real caveman dr teeth shit. this is too dentists office for me - i love soft rock but i dunno bout this kinda shit. is this from like 1987 or something? the chorus never really takes off like they want it to - FAIL

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:45 (sixteen years ago) link

x-post -- Yeah, that's a great song. They used to do it live in their glory days with a Freddie impersonator on one side of the stage and him on the other so they could show he was "HERE" and then was "THERE" and...

Ned Raggett, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:46 (sixteen years ago) link

journey - "don't stop believin"

real tired of this song. definitely was feeling it back in the day but now every bar you go to some jackass plays it on the jukebox and you see ssmirky freecreditreport.com looking dudes mouthing every word to a bored drunk girl. not gonna skip it cuz its still dope music but man it needs a permaban from jukeboxes or im gonna start nutpunching dudes

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:48 (sixteen years ago) link

you might want to throw some billy squier into that mix. i nominate "emotions in motion" and "lonely is the night".

Tracer Hand, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:50 (sixteen years ago) link

triumph - "lay it on the line"

lol wat i dont even know who the fuck these dudes are! spacey opening getting me hyped though this better kick ass. ok now it just sounds like bill & ted music - decent but not next level or anything. wouldnt turn off the radio if this came on at 2am while driving around but im not gonna put it on a mixtape or nothing.

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Sounds like you should use the Pandora zzzzz function for that Journey song.

Also, you might wanna check out the bands discussed here:

Where is the love for HOUNDS and STREETHEART and SHOOTING STAR and PRISM?

xhuxk, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:53 (sixteen years ago) link

nrg - "instruments of destruction"

lmao wtf is this?? pandora says its from the transformers soundtrack! is this a joke? its about transformers? dude on the vocals sounds like tenacious d style parody rock. i guess this is what all the comedy metal dudes are lolling about. i cant really jam this seriously but im diggin it. production is a lot more 80s ninja turtles than i was hoping on this station. ahh man dope guitar solo sounds like "aerodynamic" though. i give this a B minus

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:53 (sixteen years ago) link

eddie money - "shakin"

not really feelin this

and what, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:54 (sixteen years ago) link

oh my god you know what's good though? "baby hold on"

Tracer Hand, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:55 (sixteen years ago) link

the hair on my neck goes up when i hear that song on the radio, driving

Tracer Hand, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:56 (sixteen years ago) link

lol @ "freecreditreport.com dudes"

Tracer Hand, Friday, 4 July 2008 16:57 (sixteen years ago) link

that kansas song is from the early 80s when they tried to update their sound for mtv with a new singer & such. the video is hilariously bad

triumph were a canuck power trio, like rush w/o ayn rand

velko, Friday, 4 July 2008 17:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Favourite thread ever!

(Triumph was like Rush [and Boston] w/o a lot! I enjoy some of their hits, without that much pride.)

Sundar, Friday, 4 July 2008 17:08 (sixteen years ago) link

rick emmett (sp?) even had a shreiky high voice like geddy lee

velko, Friday, 4 July 2008 17:14 (sixteen years ago) link

I agree. I just meant that Triumph was kind of what would result if you took the generic elements of Rush's sound and subtracted anything creative that Rush tried to do with rhythm or structure.
