Two songs -- This Corrosion and Lucretia, My Reflection -- tower over the other stuff on this (very good) disc. My vote goes to This Corrosion, but it's close.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 7 July 2008 06:14 (seventeen years ago)

Exactly. It's between those two, but I can't make up my mind just yet.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 7 July 2008 06:29 (seventeen years ago)

For your consideration: The two key songs, side by side.

Tough call.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 7 July 2008 06:32 (seventeen years ago)

i'd go for "lucretia..." in the bat of an eyelid if it wasn't for the fact that my girlfriend has had "driven like the snow" on rotation for months and has very slowly brainwashed me to embrace the delights of that song.

stirmonster, Monday, 7 July 2008 06:37 (seventeen years ago)

I was going for "Lucretia..." but decided to actually go with "Flood II," if only for Doktor Avalanche's contributions.

"This Corrosion" is brilliant as well, although the video was lamentable.

Alex in NYC, Monday, 7 July 2008 11:21 (seventeen years ago)

luctretia by a whisker. fuck i love this album. must listen again. 1987 was a spectacular year for music.

CharlieNo4, Monday, 7 July 2008 12:26 (seventeen years ago)

I was about to say, people are wholesale sleeping on "Flood II"! THANK YOU ALEX

HI DERE, Monday, 7 July 2008 13:07 (seventeen years ago)

(because I probably won't vote for it even though I love it, ha)

HI DERE, Monday, 7 July 2008 13:14 (seventeen years ago)

I could have voted for every song except Torch, went with Driven in the end.

StanM, Monday, 7 July 2008 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

"This Corrosion" because Mr. Sister is so hard ass he tells you to sing his song to him!!

brg30, Monday, 7 July 2008 14:13 (seventeen years ago)

Never Land

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 7 July 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

Dunno, This Corrosion always felt too long and still does. Other than that, one of my fav albums

StanM, Monday, 7 July 2008 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

^^^

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 7 July 2008 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

This Corrosion is good, but Dominion is better.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 7 July 2008 14:58 (seventeen years ago)

Heretics, all of you.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 7 July 2008 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

I voted "Flood II" as well. This is one of my absolute favorite albums, and man, I could listen to that song on repeat forever. It's like the end credit song to a totally rad movie.

Jeff Treppel, Monday, 7 July 2008 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

"Flood II" is awesome because it's just hook after hook after hook

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 7 July 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

Never Land (full length) on the remaster is pretty sweet too

StanM, Monday, 7 July 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

As hearing Dominion/Mother Russia whilst playing GTAIV was what made me buy this album (£5, thank you Fopp), I'll vote for that.

Peteski, Monday, 7 July 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)

Dominion and 1959 need more props here.

rogermexico., Monday, 7 July 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

Never really got into "1959," I have to say.

Alex in NYC, Monday, 7 July 2008 22:36 (seventeen years ago)

Not a burner, but it'll sneak up on you someday.

rogermexico., Monday, 7 July 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

key changes in 1959 are brilliant

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 00:07 (seventeen years ago)

Torch and Colours should not be in the poll, as they are CD only bonus tracks.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 14:11 (seventeen years ago)

Listening again thanks to this thread, for the millionth time since its release, still hate Torch and love the rest :-)

StanM, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:11 (seventeen years ago)

but "Torch" is awesome, wtf

also "Torch" was a bonus track on the casette, too

HI DERE, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:14 (seventeen years ago)

It's just one of those tracks I don't get, I guess - can't explain :-(

StanM, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:22 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 12 July 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

"Torch" is a great song but I can see why someone wouldn't like it, b/c it doesn't sound much like a Sisters song

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 13 July 2008 01:43 (seventeen years ago)

sub-par, band jumped shark as soon as they graduated from 12"s to albums but I've ridden this horse before

J0hn D., Sunday, 13 July 2008 03:37 (seventeen years ago)

SOMEDAY
SOMEDA-HAY
SOMEDAY SOMEDAY

Abbott, Sunday, 13 July 2008 22:40 (seventeen years ago)

A white house in the red square and the 52 daughters of the revolution have no idea how many times I sang this song in the car throughout my life DOMINION!

Abbott, Sunday, 13 July 2008 22:41 (seventeen years ago)

Also Andy Eldry all looking like Steve Dallas!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b2/Stevedallas_bc.jpg

It is fun to imagine it's Steve Dallas singing.

Abbott, Sunday, 13 July 2008 22:43 (seventeen years ago)

!

All these years of loving both the Sisters and Bloom County and I never thought of that. Abbott is the roxor.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 13 July 2008 22:49 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Sunday, 13 July 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Low turnout :-(

StanM, Sunday, 13 July 2008 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

lurkers strike again :(

rogermexico., Monday, 14 July 2008 01:20 (seventeen years ago)

hahaha Ned, I knew you would appreciate that. :D

Abbott, Monday, 14 July 2008 03:02 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't heard this record in years. But I heard "Dominion" in my head at work about a month ago.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Monday, 14 July 2008 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

'This Corrosion' isn't nearly long enough and easily got my vote.

SeekAltRoute, Monday, 14 July 2008 03:25 (seventeen years ago)

I am still more fucking goth than you.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Monday, 14 July 2008 03:27 (seventeen years ago)

Had I seen this, I'd haved voted for Neverland

baaderonixx, Monday, 14 July 2008 08:51 (seventeen years ago)

six years pass...

After being quite disappointed by the previous album, this is really brilliant, I love it. Love the way he says "do you" and "in times like these".

Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 31 May 2015 15:19 (ten years ago)

five years pass...

this album freakin... rules. rules rules rules

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 24 April 2021 14:06 (four years ago)

yeah my 19yo daughter has been quizzing me relentlessly about goth recently and I just keep sending her YouTube links for Corrosion and Lucretia

Never Land (A Fragment) 1
Flood I 0
Torch 0
Colours 0

all robbed!!

eisimpleir (crüt), Saturday, 24 April 2021 14:18 (four years ago)

"Torch" and "Colours" aren't really on the record, though.
I enjoy the whole album, but between eight songs it's only got about four hooks.

Halfway there but for you, Saturday, 24 April 2021 14:31 (four years ago)

something not everyone notices: Colours on Floodland is sung by Eldritch but The Sisterhood album vocals are all by Lucas Fox.

StanM, Saturday, 24 April 2021 21:08 (four years ago)

(um - Giving Ground is James Ray)

StanM, Saturday, 24 April 2021 21:10 (four years ago)

It's great. But Eldritch's treatment of Morrison makes me wince when I put it on.

I spent a fortune as a teenager buying the Sisters' EPs and 7"s and LPs (and terribly expensive vinyl bootlegs). Then a few years ago I bought everything for next to nothing in one of those Original Album Series collections, which felt odd.

Duke, Sunday, 25 April 2021 20:59 (four years ago)

Original Album Series cheapo CD collections, of course.

It's odd that Some Girls Wander.. doesn't include the Body and Soul EP. Was that already on a major label?

Duke, Sunday, 25 April 2021 21:02 (four years ago)

It was their 1st major label single.

stirmonster, Sunday, 25 April 2021 21:11 (four years ago)

This recent review was pretty good

Bee OK, Sunday, 12 November 2023 02:42 (two years ago)

"This Corrosion" always sounded so massive on the dance floor, what an unlikely hit.

Not sure if I voted in this poll, but my vote would go to "Lucretia My Reflection" especially this 12+ min version:

^ I like how they basically tell you how they got here (Train -> Long Train -> Lucretia)

StanM, Sunday, 12 November 2023 04:23 (two years ago)

(Train -> Long Train -> Lucretia)

i have never made that connection before. Must re-listen to both and not sure i have ever heard that 12 min version.

Lucretia is my favourite Floodland single by far and i feel so blessed to have seen Train played live - https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-sisters-of-mercy/1984/caley-cinema-edinburgh-scotland-33c69041.html

stirmonster, Sunday, 12 November 2023 05:05 (two years ago)

I like how they basically tell you how they got here (Train -> Long Train -> Lucretia)

actually, it's so obvious once you are listening for it. LOL.

stirmonster, Sunday, 12 November 2023 05:08 (two years ago)

I loved this album then and probably love it even more these days, though "This Corrosion" is prob my least favorite thing on here *ducks*. The bass lines on this have always been tremendous.

SQUIRREL MEAT!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Monday, 13 November 2023 08:52 (two years ago)

Flood II for the win
