This thread should be tagged "British Interest"

My favourite bit is "The Jigga". Whether that's kind of a cool George Lamb-esque nickname for Scarter, or whether, more likely, Muggs is actually a writer for fucking Word Magazine who suddenly heard about rap music for the first time in May this year.

American coffee shop Joe Muggs is fucking delicious
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 7 July 2008 15:24 (seventeen years ago)
The Muggs piece is a piece of work, but the initial comments in the thread are far more horrible.

I dont have a problem with everyone on ilx referring to jayz as "The Jigga" from now on
― deej, Monday, 7 July 2008 15:31 (seventeen years ago)
JayZ should not be headlining a British music festival. Not because the genre in which he excels is a bad fit for the traditional guitar-based scene, but because he clearly believes women, black women, are only good for one thing.

The best gig I ever went to was De La Soul nearly 20 years ago. I don’t think the Rappin’ Reverend is a misogynist, either [joke ]. But successful Hip Hop in the modern era is charactersied by a misogynist streak in both lyric and video. You can parse as many non-PC, 40-year old Rolling Stones lyrics as you like, but we’re at a different order of magnitude here whether you can see it or not.
When this sort of woman hatred can win a Grammy, I think we’ve got a problem.
If Dr Dre, Nate Dogg et al were writing about Jews or Asians the way the do women, most right-minded people would be apoplectic and they’d likely be arrested for incitement.

find me anything more misogynistic than Under My Thumb and I might agree.

Music blogger Joe Muggs is tl;dr
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 7 July 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)
Indeed. I nearly got to the end of the 2nd paragraph before giving up. Too boring!

― energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 12:15 (seventeen years ago)
Note the telltale lapse into industryspeak in the final paragraph.
Yet again it's a case of "shit or get off the pot" here.
