cover songs that doesnt sound anything like the original

Supposedly Otis Redding hadn't heard the Stones' "Satisfaction" when he recorded his cover ... I wouldn't say it doesn't sound anything like the original, but it does sound different.

I've grown to prefer it.

Their cover of "Head Like a Hole" by NIN is pretty faithful, although they made the vocals purposely silly sounding (or at least sillier than they already sounded).

I was sooo going to say this. It took MANY listens to hear any connection to the original "Paint It Black." Fantastic cover!

M. Ward's cover of Bowie's Let's Dance. Love Is All just released a covers EP with a version of A Flock Of Seagulls I Ran, which to me sounds only vaguely like the original. Years ago, Charles Earland released a version of Eleanor Rigby, called Black Talk, that has only a passing similarity to the original (if that).

Of course Yellow Submarine by Cathy Berberian is quite diffrent from the original too, as is the version by the Black Dyke Mills Band, although both are recognisable as the original song (sung by The Beatles).
