Is it possible to convert an M4A file info an MP3 file?
If not, can someone recommend me a free MP4A player/program?

yes, you can convert any audio file to another type; you can do this in itunes if that's what you're using, by changing the 'import' settings in preferences, then right clikcing on the file itself.
i don't know if you can do this to files you bought from itunes, though. in fact I assume you can't.

converting to .wav doesn't increase the sound at all, it just expands the size. I suppose you'd do this if you wanted to burn an audio cd, but then, itunes will burn an audio cd for you from m4as anyway, so I can't see the point.

doesn't increase the resolution of the sound, I meant

Indeed. If you're talking about M4A files, they're probably iTunes-bought tracks with copy protection. The above method won't work.

(simplest way to break the copy protection is to burn the tracks to an audio CD then reimport them)
Oh. maybe blueski's copy-protected m4a -> wav -> mp3 works. I haven't tried that.

you can't do any of this stuff without degrading the sound quality, you all know; is it really worth it?
