Could imagine. Track up on PTW certainly was

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

Totally great.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

I liked the preview track, too, but no Gilbert?

briania, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

i liked it the first time I listened to it, then I listened to it again and it didn't do much. it's no 'ahead' or 'bell is a cup'.

akm, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

i do love margaret fielder's playing on it though

akm, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

See, this is exactly what happened to me with Read & Burn 3. So frustrating. I want to believe!

Bimble, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

totally digging this

latebloomer, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

stephen, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

three weeks pass...

OH my god.
Only the first song in and wow...SUGARY SWEET MELODIES JUST LIKE THE GOOD OLD MID 80'S WIRE

SO much better than that Send crap. Melodies! Good old fashioned fucking British goddamn good ass music, that's what.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 3 August 2008 10:56 (seventeen years ago)

I must be 15 again. Wire have a new album out.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 3 August 2008 10:59 (seventeen years ago)

Isn't the production wonderful? Isn't it? Isn't it?

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 3 August 2008 11:02 (seventeen years ago)

Oh I really liked Send :(

Niles Caulder, Sunday, 3 August 2008 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

Read & Burn 03 & Send were fucking excellent, only problem with Send was they left out some of the stronger tracks from R&B01 & 02.

So is this for sale yet at Pinkflag.com? *checks* Yes. Purchased.

S-, Sunday, 3 August 2008 12:59 (seventeen years ago)

I got the vinyl, all tracks included and remixed. I forget that when I think about "Send".

Niles Caulder, Sunday, 3 August 2008 13:22 (seventeen years ago)

The vinyl version's tracks are all edited down much shorter. I made a CD with all the tracks in the same order as the record. Flows quite well actually.

Does it NOT make you have an orgasm?

Doesn't it though? Oh my god. There's a new Wire album doesn't it just scrach your itch, baby.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Monday, 4 August 2008 05:36 (seventeen years ago)

I like the cover. It looks like a Warp record circa mid- 90's. I must investigate.

leavethecapital, Monday, 4 August 2008 11:57 (seventeen years ago)

"One of Us" is such a great song.

van smack, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 00:52 (seventeen years ago)

I'm with Bimble here. The Read & Burns and Send were not very good at all, but this makes up for all that.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 01:40 (seventeen years ago)

No, they were/are great.

S-, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 01:46 (seventeen years ago)

Send was meh, I liked the first EP a lot.

This one is...pretty good. The Ideal Copy wasn't a great album either.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 01:48 (seventeen years ago)

collectively the read & burn eps were better but Send was great. this new one is too. i like pretty much everything this band has done.

latebloomer, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

Just got this today. First listen through elicited a pretty big "meh" from me. Gilbert is missed. There is no edge to these songs. At times it is reminiscent of some of Newman's solo work but without the beauty of those songs.

I love the first three records and then was bored until the Rad and Burns showed up. Now those were a wake up call.

I am beginning to think there are two schools of Wire fans, the fans of the old classic edgy records and those that prefer the listless middle period (for some reason.)

This record just sort of makes me sad.

kwhitehead, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 04:13 (seventeen years ago)

They were rad and they did burn

Niles Caulder, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 06:52 (seventeen years ago)

i said my piece here and i can't be arsed repeating myself ;)

kwitehead: yeh, you're fundamentally right. i love pretty much everything wire have done but "a bell is a cup" and "the ideal copy" are pretty much the acme for me.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 12:09 (seventeen years ago)

with you, grimly. this record is.... comfort music. It doesn't jump out with awesomeness but I want to play it just because it sounds like Wire, i guess?

"Perspex Icon" and "One of Us" are great.

Roz, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 08:16 (seventeen years ago)

Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't "Perspex Icon" a delicious piece of pop music you could almost roll out for your mother?

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 9 August 2008 11:57 (seventeen years ago)

I just downloaded Perspex Icon and I'm floored by the beauty of it. Thanks for the tip.

Marty Innerlogic, Saturday, 9 August 2008 13:09 (seventeen years ago)

Hmm. On first listen yeah, the opener and 'Perspex Icon' stand out, but on a whole this sounds very dated, and not in a good revisionist way like a couple of the tracks off R&B03 did. That was a week ago, just listened to The Scottish Play: 2004 which was great, so about to have another crack at it now.

S-, Saturday, 23 August 2008 04:34 (seventeen years ago)

Definitely better second time around. 'Hard Currency', 'Patient Flees' and 'All Fours' have their strengths. I'm sure it will stand for future listens

On the whole though, previous criticisms stand, and compared to the simply stunning R&B03 with '23 Years Late' and 'Desert Diving', this is a bit of a letdown.

S-, Saturday, 23 August 2008 05:18 (seventeen years ago)

See you're making me listen to this. I'm going to put it on my iPod right now.
