Trevor Horn:The first 10 years

List taken from http://www.trevor-horn.de/list6.html, with a few necessary omissions. Pretty calamitous drop in quality post '85, but that's nothing compared to the horrors of the 90's. was going to limit it to top 40 singles but that would have meant missing some fantastic work from Art of Noise and Act amongst others.

Billy Dods, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

Chart positions are for UK of course.

On a side note, I only found out tonight that his wife Jill Sinclair has been in a coma for two years after a shooting accident involving her son.

Billy Dods, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

ABC - All of my Heart........ by a mile.

This song still sends shivers down my spine every time i hear it..

Jack Battery-Pack, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:30 (seventeen years ago)

I like that Anne Pigalle record but am going with "Two Tribes".

Eazy, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

Paul McCartney's "Où est le Soleil" should definitely be included here.

And I even though it's not on the Horn site's list, Propaganda's "p: machinery (beta wraparound)" b/w "(echo of) frozen faces" or however that should be styled...

ryanch, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:40 (seventeen years ago)

'Où est le Soleil' was one of the ones I deleted as it was listed as a b-side.

Billy Dods, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:42 (seventeen years ago)

"Moments in Love."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

A bit too many choices, maybe?

For me, this is between "Video Killed The Radio Star" and "The Look Of Love", two of the finest pop singles of all time.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

I voted Two Tribes, but weird how little I like the two PSB Trevor Horn tracks compared to a lot of their big singles.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

I was going to vote for Relax, but chose instead Slave To The Rhythm because it's classic Jones, in contrast to her current enforced "wacky" persona.

snoball, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 22:39 (seventeen years ago)

Close to the Edit, although i was tempted by Owner of a Lonely Heart and about 15 other things on here

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 22:49 (seventeen years ago)

Ditto, except my major temptation not to vote for "Close to the Edit" was "The Look of Love." Swoon.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

something terrible must have happened to him in the summer of 87

akm, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 23:36 (seventeen years ago)

Brief recovery in nov 88

ledge, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 23:38 (seventeen years ago)

Dollar - Videotheque

still a stunning single. Listen on headphones!

Capitaine Jay Vee, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 23:43 (seventeen years ago)

I would like to have all this singles.

Capitaine Jay Vee, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 23:44 (seventeen years ago)

btw this compilation is fantastic.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 10 July 2008 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

I refuse to choose!

Toss up between "The Look Of Love" and "Leave It"

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 10 July 2008 00:21 (seventeen years ago)

"Give Me Back My Heart" is mucho underrated.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 10 July 2008 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

This is really, really too hard to pick. I want to vote for Into Battle* but there are so many Single Glorious Pop Moments around it that I can't convince myself to.

*booo unfair splitting the Moments/Beatox vote away from it, too

energy flash gordon, Thursday, 10 July 2008 03:34 (seventeen years ago)

Give me back my heart is mucho underrated

Damn right. There are other Dollar videos on youtube in all their bouffant, blonde highlighted splendour but this is the only one I could find with the fantastic accapella outro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh_jsu39n2g

Billy Dods, Thursday, 10 July 2008 10:18 (seventeen years ago)

I was going to big up "Hand held in black and white"

Hell. will anyway.

It's graet.

Mark G, Thursday, 10 July 2008 10:20 (seventeen years ago)

I have yet to hear a Buggles song I dislike. I've heard about 6.

blueski, Thursday, 10 July 2008 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

oh, and btw..

THE ART OF NOISE featuring TOM JONES - KISS 5

.. is wrong.

Mark G, Thursday, 10 July 2008 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

in the absence of 'Duel' i vote 'Dr Mabuse'
but 'Elstree', 'Hand Held In Black And White', 'Beat Box', 'Close To The Edit', 'Relax', 'Slave To The Rhythm' and 'Left To My Own Devices' are among the 50 greatest singles EVER

blueski, Thursday, 10 July 2008 10:29 (seventeen years ago)

There are too many Perfect Tens on that list for me to able to choose.

OK, because it's ILM: "All Of My Heart".

mike t-diva, Thursday, 10 July 2008 10:33 (seventeen years ago)

"All Of My Heart" > "Left To My Own Devices" by the smallest 'greater than' symbol possible.

2for25, Thursday, 10 July 2008 13:18 (seventeen years ago)

mark g - yeah, that wtfed me too

energy flash gordon, Thursday, 10 July 2008 14:01 (seventeen years ago)

damn that was hard.
went for Dr Mabuse in the end - but there are many many others worthy of love.

mark e, Thursday, 10 July 2008 14:06 (seventeen years ago)

weren't there any singles from Drama? or do those not count because horn's name wasn't put on as the sole producer?

akm, Thursday, 10 July 2008 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

i was gonna ask that

velko, Thursday, 10 July 2008 16:32 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Pleasuredome

Arghn, Thursday, 17 July 2008 11:28 (seventeen years ago)

Didn't he also produce the Korgis?

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 17 July 2008 11:38 (seventeen years ago)

According to wikipedia; 'The single "Don't Look Back", originally a demo from the Sticky George sessions, was however remixed by Trevor Horn (at the time best known for his work with The Buggles, Dollar and Yes) and issued by London Records in the summer of 1982. A follow-up single with Horn, "Endangered Species", was planned but never materialised.'

Billy Dods, Thursday, 17 July 2008 11:43 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 17 July 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

How fuck does Moments in Love not get a single vote?

Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 17 July 2008 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

Where's my vote for "Videotheque"? Hmm.
