anyone else having fun with this record? i find myself playing it over and over again, might be the perfect summer soundtrack for 2008.

Not sure I'd say it's a "summery record," but I like the rawness of the songs. Good disc.

yeah love this album. very XTC-ish in places...? Although honestly I think he does afro-rhythms/percussion + strummy pop goodness combo a bit better than Partridge ever did, maybe cuz XTC was always relying on super-stiff drum machines to carry the rhythmic weight

sleeve design is incredibly lame/lazy tho
― Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 11 July 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)
it's an xtc meets animal collective or something. too long, some fillers, but the good songs are great (Jodi, red and purple, the season esp.)
― Zeno, Friday, 11 July 2008 17:25 (seventeen years ago)
sounds about right
― Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 11 July 2008 18:11 (seventeen years ago)
'fools' is good, but if you tap the drum beat on the table too much, apparently you piss your boss off so much he moves you into another team. apparently.

i also like when play fast,in a metal-ish style sort of way.talented, those guys
― Zeno, Friday, 11 July 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)
so is it the Dodos or the DoDos?
glad to see this album get some love as it's really good and not just another indie release.

Talking to Pitchfork last month, Dodos singer/guitarist Meric Long had this to say about the band's forthcoming album: "We have a whole new element in all the new songs right now-- an electric vibraphone. That's what's really standing out. It was something I wanted to incorporate a while ago when I heard about this company that made pick ups for vibraphones so you can actually plug it in and really fuck up the sound while retaining that organic element."
It's true; the strummy, stompy San Francisco duo are now a trio, with electric vibraphonist Keaton Snyder on board. And now we can tell you that the Dodos' third LP, the scarily titled Time to Die, is due September 15 from Frenchkiss. The band recorded Time to Die with Fleet Foxes/Shins producer Phil Ek, and according to Long, "This album sounds more like a band."

"The band recorded Time to Die with Fleet Foxes/Shins producer Phil Ek"
if you want to understand how the new record sounds, read this sentence carefully.it sounds just like you imagine it to sound like.Dodos meets Shins.less basic and edgy than Visiter, with electric guitars, and a warmer sound.accessible to (even) more indie fans.so is it good? it's ok. is it great? mmmm...i don't think so..nothing too special here.instead of going to the more avant-garde direction, they chose mainstream.oh well..at least they'll have more money..
― Zeno, Friday, 10 July 2009 11:39 (sixteen years ago)
I guess. But how much more minimal and bare-bones could they go after the debut?
I'm kind of anxious to hear the new direction.
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 10 July 2009 12:23 (sixteen years ago)
It's not much of a new direction really. Songs are just a bit more straight forward and with less focus on the drums, which were something that distinguished the first album. Disappointing.
― Number None, Friday, 10 July 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)
agreed that the drums make the first record, absolutely the most interesting/engaging thing about it

― Sleep Causes Cancer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 10 July 2009 17:41 (sixteen years ago)
how can album sound like the shins meets the dodos? all im picturing is various shades of the color brown
― love/cank (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 July 2009 17:42 (sixteen years ago)
it means it'll be like the previous Dodos album, except shittier
― Sleep Causes Cancer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 10 July 2009 17:49 (sixteen years ago)
the doodoos
― cool app (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 10 July 2009 17:51 (sixteen years ago)
"agreed that the drums make the first record, absolutely the most interesting/engaging thing about it"the drums, the fast guitars, the xtc meets AC melodies.all gone in the new record.someone like Steve Albini might create a delicacy out of this formula..but he is not the producer for this record..
