Any recommendations? Anything along the lines of Nudity or Aqua Nebula Oscillator, if anyone's managed to check them out (it's hard to find copies of any of this shit).
― Reatards Unite, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:15 (seventeen years ago)
I've never actually heard them but didn't people say that that band wooden shjips was doing this?
― filthy dylan, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)
yes, definitely some Hawkwind going on with them.
― sleeve, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:31 (seventeen years ago)
I think we did a thread like this recently .... yes to Wooden Shjips .... how about Aqua Nebula's labelmates Turzi (on some tracks, like "Afghanistan" or "Alpes") ....
haven't heard Nudity, what's up with them?
― dmr, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)
ditto to The Wooden Shjips
― Steve Shasta, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)
Check out The Nightfeeders - 21 minute long single/EP/album (I've heard it called all three at different times) they released earlier this year. I think it's limited to 800, but you should still be able to find it if you look around. It's worth the money. I think they've got a myspace with samples too.
Wooden Shjips certainly fits the definition as well, but I've got their albums and actually seen them too. I'll check out Turzi though.
― Reatards Unite, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)
silver machines but they are kinda "modern rock" pro sounding

I have a bunch of pre-Nightfeeders Nudity stuff mostly limited edition/private pressing sorta stuff; also pre-Quitty (band has gone through a few line-up changes - originally had two drummers, which was teh awesome).

Cirle and AMT OTM.
― Alex in SF, Thursday, 10 July 2008 18:09 (seventeen years ago)
Turzi isn't as heavy and raw as some of the other stuff being talked about here (and they also go in for Goblin type synth stuff) but they curated a pretty sweet compilation of French psych called Voyage which is the only place I've heard Aqua Nebula Oscillator, their track "Ready to Fly" is on there

In a way isn't this also Clinic?
― filthy dylan, Thursday, 10 July 2008 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

holy fuck... they're that tedious indie-math band where the two guys play tables, right? i mean, the tables have pedals all over them, but still... tables.
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Saturday, 12 July 2008 22:48 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, GOTT PUNCH, but tedious is the last word I'd use to describe 'em. I don't know what you mean by "indie-math," but it sounds inaccurate.
― inhibitionist, Sunday, 13 July 2008 03:55 (seventeen years ago)
holy fuck definitely rock the motorik-kraut moves, hawkwind not so much. seen them live twice and they are very good.

I've spent the last month totally immersed in Audionom, which is very much on the the Kraut end of things, Joy Division touches in places, but also do 13 minute songs called Boogierock. I can believe this band hasn't gotten more attention. Retrospektiv might end up on my best-of-the-Decade list.
― bendy, Sunday, 13 July 2008 14:24 (seventeen years ago)
did anyone mention "silver tongued sisyphus" by cloudland canyon? i guess i just did.

You could have heard me proclaiming the Hawkwind=the UK Neu! hypothesis in pubs all over north London in 1998, and also that Loop were their natural heirs.

Endless Boogie finally clicked with me a few months ago, big time. Still love Audionom. Dark Meat's latest, Truce Opium is in this vein, and good, but not as good as their less-hypnojamming first record.

I've been dubious about Endless Boogie but I'm gonna make the plunge. The Dark Meat I've heard seemed cool.

some stuff on the 1st mammatus rec that leans in this direction, though generally more hawkwind-aligned.

― Bashful Johnny C. (staggerlee), Saturday, 15 May 2010 00:23 (fifteen years ago)
Mugstar I might like them more than Circle, even. 1st record is good & I'm not sure what I think of new one but it has a great sound for sure, a lot of alternating spacey & heavy repetitive... trensmat 7" is awesome & collected on label CD comp
― Snop Snitchin, Saturday, 15 May 2010 00:40 (fifteen years ago)
someone mentioned the heads. otm. white hills too.
― contenderizer, Saturday, 15 May 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)
new Cave sounds good on 1st listen, they mellowed out some.
noone mentioned La Otracina, White Hills, or Burnt Hills in this thread... former might be too proggy to qualify. (xpost)See also trensmat singles, 6 sides of contemporary Hawkwind covers compiled partially on aforementioned label CD comp.
― Snop Snitchin, Saturday, 15 May 2010 00:54 (fifteen years ago)
yeah except i just mentioned white hills
that trensmat singles set is cool, only place i've heard mugstar (who turn in my favorite track)
― contenderizer, Saturday, 15 May 2010 00:58 (fifteen years ago)
Mugstar have had quite the banner year! Both ...Sun, Broken... and Lime are spectacular. Just cranked the latter at ear-splitting levels and drifted right out of my head. Wonderful.

Saw Kinski do "Masters of the Universe" with Kawabata on guitar two years back at Terrastock 7. Mind-melting doesn't begin to cover it.

yeah that was unbelievable. and kawabata was playing this bizarre pipe-looking guitar-thing that shredded people's hearing

Yeah that's the CD comp of the 3 7"s, plus bonuses from Moon Duo, Magoo & one of the Mugstar tracks IIRC

Purling Hiss played here in Brooklyn last night. Very cool live. They didn't headline so it was only about ~40 minutes, but I was impressed. Nothing revolutionary here, but if you dig this kind of music they are extremely skilled exponents of it.
