The album certainly balances the optimistic tracks with more melancholic, introspective songs like Peaceful The World Lays Me Down.
Charlie: Absolutely. Theoretically you could put Five Years Time and Peaceful back to back and think it was two different bands. But we worked really hard to make the songs linked thematically.
So if you just take Five Years Time you might get a quote like "Blue Peter Pogues" - but if you hear Peaceful and get the cross-reference of the two, then you get a picture of what the band is.
So if you absolutely had to compare your music to a children's TV show and another band, what would you say?
Charlie: We could have a really dark band, like Slipknot
Urby: And Superted. We are the Superted Slipknot!

I think when you hit your mid-twenties and most of new bands out there are either your age or a bit younger, it's harder to tolerate their twattishness and give them the benefit of the doubt. Try growing old enough to be their parents. You get all "take that stupid hat off, get your head out of your ass and NO YOU CAN"T BORROW THE CAR."

RIP, and this after Pete Paphides hailed their latest album as a masterpiece (o_O)
Band devastated by guitar theft
The band are on a 12-date UK tourIndie-folk band Noah And The Whale have vowed to continue a UK tour despite having all of their equipment stolen from a car park in Manchester. The gear - including vintage guitars, brass instruments and the drum kit - were taken from a car park near the Club Academy venue on Tuesday night.Lead singer Charlie Fink said he was "unbelievably devastated" but vowed to carry on with borrowed instruments.Greater Manchester Police said it had yet to receive a report of the theft.Band members are still trying to put an estimated value on the haul, which was locked in a trailer. But they hope the unusual nature of the equipment - which includes a number of left-handed guitars - will help track it down. Fink said he was particularly upset about losing his guitar, which he used on latest album The First Days Of Spring. He said: "None of it's about the money, it's genuinely irreplaceable stuff."There aren't replacements of these items. My Fender Jaguar 1963, for example, I've had that for ages and my entire sound is based on that guitar."It's very rare, I've only found one of those guitars. But even if there was a duplicate it wouldn't ever sound the same."It's hard to explain the relationship you have with a guitar."The trailer also contained a left-handed Gibson Les Paul Gold Top Deluxe and a left-handed Fender Telecaster in sunburst colour.Theft 'devastating'A Gibson Goldtone GA-30 RVS Amp, a Ludwig silver/white oyster finish drum kit and a Fender 66 Precision Bass were also stolen.Fink added: "The most frustrating thing is whoever's done this has no understanding of what he's done. He has no idea of what it all means to us."We load up our own stuff, we carry our own gear. We do it with all our own money - it's devastating."Fink hopes to borrow equipment for the rest of the tour, which takes them to the US after playing 12 more UK dates."We're not going to cancel any shows, we'll find another way to do it," he added.Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the equipment is asked to contact the band through their website or MySpace page.

New album's actually pretty good. A complete change of tack to sleek 80s rock (Full Moon Fever would be a decent comparison point). Never liked them before, but starting to admire Charlie Fink's willingness to do something different every time he goes in a studio, regardless of the fact that the people who liked the previous album will be baffled: each has been very different to the last.
