COLLECTOR'S EDITIONS

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and Mute announce the first four albums in a series that will see the band's entire album catalogue digitally re-mastered and remixed in 5.1 surround sound.

From Her To Eternity, The First Born Is Dead, Kicking Against The Pricks and Your Funeral, My Trial are set to be released at the end of the year.

Each deluxe double-disc collector's edition contains the re-mastered stereo album, the new surround mix, a specially commissioned short film made by acclaimed UK artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard plus the b-sides from the singles and exclusive sleeve notes.

The B-sides were all on the box set already but if they throw in some other rarities, cool; if the films are along the lines of the ones Mute did with Depeche for their rereleases, cooler.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 July 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

did they contain fans talking about the songs? :-/

Call for participants in the films for the album remasters

Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard, the artists who have been commissioned to produce a series of short films that will accompany each of the recently announced Collector's Editions, are looking for a small number of fans to participate in the project. They're filming in London, New York, Melbourne and Berlin in August and September this year and are looking for fans to talk about the songs they have a connection to from the band's history. If you're interested in being involved you are encouraged to get in touch as soon as possible to secure a time to contribute. You can read more about the project and submit your details to the production team here:

Uh.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 July 2008 20:26 (seventeen years ago)

Exactly. However, http://www.iainandjane.com/work/index.shtml - they seem to be alright

StanM, Monday, 14 July 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

Still - I don't care about the extra stuff much - it's all about those four albums, remastered! Woohoo!

StanM, Monday, 14 July 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

i'm a big fan, but honestly since I don't do 5.1 for music I'm not that excited by this, I think the original CDs sound fine, so unless these are SACDs that are massively improved in some unreal way, I think I'll skip 'em since the bonus tracks are probably all on that box set (which I haven't bought yet either).

akm, Monday, 14 July 2008 20:43 (seventeen years ago)

God, all these in 5.1 will be a knockout.

Live!! in the Weill-meets-Browning world of "The Carny" !

Hear!! the churning black waters of the death-infused Mississippi in "St Huck"!

Feel!! the passion of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds surround you in "Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart"!

No demos, though?

Capitaine Jay Vee, Monday, 14 July 2008 22:20 (seventeen years ago)

So this release is influenced by the recent Depeche Mode and Yazoo ones?

Well, I am not too fond of his early output anyway, but probably nice for his fans. The Depeche Mode ones were pretty solid stuff.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

The B-sides were all on the box set already

And half of them were in the middle of the original CDs, getting the actual album tracks back in the right order is a plus.

Bastards. Mute have also released single-disc editions on the same dates. And the CD+DVD edition of From Her To Eternity has the cover art for Kicking Against The Pricks @ Amazon.co.uk , so I now have the CD+DVD editions of The Firstborn is Dead, Kicking Against The Pricks, Your Funeral My Trial and the single disc edition of From Her To Eternity. Which I will return to Amazon (if I can be bothered) :-/

So if you order them, take care. The CD+DVD editions (cardboard gatefold) are Cat.No. cdseeds1, cdseeds2, cdseeds3 and cdseeds4. The single disc reissues (plastic jewel case) are CDSTUMM17 etc.

:-/

Consider my jaw dropped: I just received apologies and a complete refund from Amazon! They will also put up the correct cover image and they've thanked me for letting them know and everything!

StanM, Monday, 4 May 2009 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

(I've forgotten the most important part: "In this case, however, the cost of returning the package is likely to be overly expensive. Please keep it with our compliments. Hence we request
you not to return the item even though you have printed the return label for this item.")

StanM, Monday, 4 May 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

Nicely done, these reissues:

CD = remastered original album
DVD = album in 5.1 surround + extra tracks + documentary + video clip(s) + documentary & video clip in mp4 (high/med/low) formats + extra tracks in mp3 format.

StanM, Monday, 4 May 2009 17:00 (sixteen years ago)

damn. amazon ftw

Another reissue set tossing the bonus tracks on the DVD only and not on a CD? Looks like this will join the Depeche Mode remasters on the list off reissues I would have gladly handed $$$ over for if they hadn't been thrown together by people with little clue as to how normal people actually listen to their music.

I prefer the original LP tracklists, that's how they were originally released and planned and how I got to know them (In The Ghetto and The Moon Is In The Gutter between From Her To Eternity and Saint Huck? *shiver*)

StanM, Monday, 4 May 2009 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

I'm with you on that, I just wish the extra tracks weren't relegated to the DVD, where I will never listen to them.

hmmm very tempting!

baaderonixx, Monday, 4 May 2009 18:31 (sixteen years ago)

Sound is great too. Haven't checked out the surround mix yet, but the regular remaster is very nice indeed.

It sure makes a long time fan feel good.

dude you've had 14 years to buy these albums with CD bonus tracks if you wanted, this is the first time they've ever been released with the original tracklisting. if there are more bonus tracks this time, "normal people" will have been listening to them for the last five years on a $10 box set

rebel without a cape (sic), Monday, 4 May 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)

his is the first time they've ever been released with the original tracklisting

So they took "Scum" off the end of Your Funeral...My TrialT? Yay. It's a good track, but messes up the finality of "Long Time Man".

bendy, Monday, 4 May 2009 23:43 (sixteen years ago)

sic... I'm not complaining about the track order, I'm fine with that! Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it seems that the bonus tracks are now only available on the DVD disc and since I never listen to my music on my DVD player, those would go unheard. All of my Nick Cave is on dubbed cassettes and I was hoping this would be my chance to stock up on the albums proper. I'm just bummed that I have to sit in front of my DVD player to hear the bonus tracks. Thats all.

homage is parody gone sour (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 5 May 2009 00:23 (sixteen years ago)

whoops I meant 24 years not 14

I assume if the bonus tracks (which are all b-sides already on the B-Sides box, yeah?) are in mp3, it's so you can handily grab them off the disc onto yr computer for listening to in your preferred convenient form... and if you want full CD fidelity, the box has been out for four or five years!

rebel without a cape (sic), Tuesday, 5 May 2009 04:50 (sixteen years ago)

I was kind of afraid to check out the documentaries since they were going to be "fans talking about the album" but I just saw the From Her To Eternity one and they're really very ok. There's band members, friends of the band, journalists who were there at the time, people like Dave Gahan, John Darnielle, Gavin Friday, offering insights, all roughly based on the songs on the album. Enjoyed it & glad I got these versions.

StanM, Monday, 11 May 2009 22:23 (sixteen years ago)

Also briefly checked out the surround mix of FHTE, don't know what to think about that yet, will investigate when I can listen to the whole albums in 5.1. (Based on first impressions I think it's mainly: Nick front center, main music on the front speakers, blixa's guitar sound effects on the left and right back speakers)

StanM, Monday, 11 May 2009 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

Wow man.

You haven't heard The Firstborn Is Dead until you've been surrounded by it...

StanM, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 15:04 (sixteen years ago)

hmmm - maybe one day i'll get a 5.1 system and rock "Cabin Fever" for thrills late at night
